    Why would it get coverage? This is personal, if I was one of his family members I would not want media to come anywhere near us

    At this point the information is very limited. In general, he's doing not so good.

    Don’t blame the WBC for the man getting seriously hurt like this. Ultimately it’s just boxing is a brutal sport and Adonis went one fight to far. It’s just an unfortunate situation altogether.

    Yeah, if he were doing well, I think they'd say something by now. Brain damage is something that generally occurs over time and even acute cases (like Mago) resulted in consciousness problems quite a while after the match. Mago survived (barely), but with significant permanent impairment. Boxers who collapse in the ring often do worse (Munson, Duk-koo) since the initial damage is bad enough to cause problems, and then the swelling makes it even worse. Looks like Stevenson was somewhere between Munson and Duk-koo.

    The coverage depends on how much the family or people close to Adonis want to disclose to the public and media

    In all honesty he’s not exactly considered one of history’s most upstanding citizens so there won’t be a huge interest publicly

    Cheers for the update, if he's conscious and able to communicate that's obviously a huge plus for quality of life.

    Good to hear, now Gvozdyk won't have a death on his conscience to carry around with him, and Adonis can raise his kids.

    Maybe they got some insiders news from Gvozdyk's side, but I live about 1,5 km from the hospital where Stevenson is staying and here we don't have any news from Stevenson.

    Absolute BS sources. Let's see: the first link quotes allboxing.ru as their source. I opened that page (https://allboxing.ru/news/20181217-2016/smi-adonis-stivenson-vyshel-iz-komy)... Just two paragraphs of BS: "as Сanadian media report..." Which Canadian media?" They have no idea...

    The second website quotes Tass.ru as their source... And that article is deleted from tass already, by the way.

    From what I understand, Stevenson's situation is as follows:
    a) technically he is out of coma (people don't open an eye while in coma, obviously) but he can't breath for himself — connected to a medical ventilator;
    b) a half of his body (the right one) is most probably paralyzed;

    "Benny Paret had been trading world titles back and forth for a two year period and went into the third Griffiths fight reigning champion. He'd lost it to Griffiths and won it back before this fight though he did jump up to middleweight and took a beating trying to win the middleweight title of Gene Fulmer in between the last two Griffiths fights and that possibly helped aid the tragedy."

    Fullmer said post- Kid Paret fight that he had really beat up the Kid bad. The fight tape is on YouTube. Paret was 2-5 over his last 7 fights over 1-1/2 years, taking on 3 very strong fighters in his general weight class: Griffith (3), Gaspar Ortega (1), and of course Gene Fullmer.

    1961-12-09 : Gene Fullmer 159¾ lbs beat Benny Kid Paret 156¾ lbs by KO at 2:30 in round 10 of 15
    • NBA World Middleweight Title
    In this grueling battle, almost every punch would be thrown from the inside, with the boxers' noses mere inches away from each other most of the fight.. Fullmer, the world middleweight champion, continually came forward while Paret, the world welterweight champion, fought much of the fight with his back against the ropes. Throughout the early and middle rounds the fight was very close, with both fighters having their own rallies and both faces becoming more disfigured. In the tenth, Fullmer's solid shots finally had an effect and Paret went down early in the round. Referee Krause mistakenly gave Paret a standing eight count even though this had been ruled off before the fight. The fans booed, and even Paret looked upset that this had been given. After the knockdown, Fullmer came at him, but Paret came back with one of his best rallies of the fight. This slightly stunned Fullmer but not enough to wobble him, and afterward Paret looked spent. Fullmer landed 7 unanswered rights to the head before one more to the body and Paret went down again. This time Krause gave no standing eight count, and Fullmer came in to finish the job. He landed two more punches to the body and then one huge right to jaw that put Paret down for the 10 count. Fullmer stated afterward that this was one of his most grueling fights. Paret appeared to have swelling above and below both eyes by the end.

    Notes
    Three and a half months later, in Paret’s next fight, he would lose his life in an epic battle with Emile Griffith.

    1961-02-25 : Benny Kid Paret 154½ lbs lost to Gaspar Ortega 149½ lbs by UD in round 10 of 10
    "Gaspar Ortega scored an upset unanimous 10 round decision last night over world welterweight champion Benny (Kid) Paret in a non-title bout. The decision in the nationally televised slugfest was a popular one with the Olympic Auditorium crowd, estimated at 3,000. Ortega at first stayed in close with Paret, but in the middle rounds held the champion at a distance and connected with good looping rights to the jaw. Ortega's fast left jab also was very effective in slowing down Paret. The only blood drawn came in the 8th round, when Ortega suffered a cut on his left eyebrow from what appeared to be a butt by Paret. The two welterweights started out at the opening bell as if it were a 4 rounder and slugged toe-to-toe and head-to-head throughout. Paret was booed loudly in the 1st round when he hit Ortega with a right below the belt. Again in the 2nd round, referee Jimmy Wilson warned the Cuban to keep his punches up as the crowd roared." -United Press International

    • Between the 2nd and 3rd rounds, the pro-Ortega crowd became so incensed by the low blows by Paret, they doused the champion with beer in his corner.
