So what was Marciano. A masterful ring technician. Beautiful boxing skills. Aw inspiring footwork. Or 2 left feet and used his mug to block shots with.
Goldman made Rocky the best he could. I knew you’d react. No one’s disputing Rocky’s greatness. In fact it’s almost a compliment to him that he achieved what he did without being the most polished of boxers. Anyway Happy New Year and chill.
Ok. Rocky took too many punches to get to his opponents as he lacked the speed of head and footwork of say a Tyson who was similar in proportions and disadvantages in height and reach. and would use angles to get inside his opponents guard which Rocky didn’t. He had no real jab. Apart from the beautifully timed right against Walcott Rocky usually just wailed away at his opponents. Now don’t get me wrong. His power for that size of heavyweight was immense. He had subtle skills not really noticeable where he would eventually work an opponent into a corner but we’re talking ATG’s. He’d smash opponents arms and cause damage. I’m going by skill. Gene Tunney and James J Corbett would rank above Rocky in skill but would i rate them above as ATG’s. No way. Hope this helps. If not I can’t do too much else other than spend breaking every tiny detail down. Before I go do you think Rocky Marciano is more skilled than Buster Douglas? I'm talking Tokyo Douglas.
GENE FULMER is the answer to this question. Mauler and spoiler, who did very little that anyone cites as excellent. As for Marciano, he developed his own alternative style of getting low, getting inside of his opponents range, and using superior stamina to land more punches overall. Brilliant little-guy style.
You really haven’t said much for all those words, you’re also blatantly wrong on nearly every point which tells me it’s not worth it. “Just wailed away” Archie Moores undoing. I’d also really just rather not get into a circular argument about personal definitions of skill and whether or not RM was better then Buster Douglas - come on lol.
