What belts are the only legitimate belts? World title only? Or do the Diamond belts and Interim Champions deserve to be called champs
well diamond, silver, regular and interim are not champs if there is a credible Ring champ at a weight he is the champ the others are belt holders in my words basically the legitimacy of the title comes from the champion himself, the way in which he won it as in was it from a defending champ or is it paper does the guy defend against credible foes or just milk and hold it hostage
Example: Martinez is the true Champ at 160 and Chavez Jr is a fraud with a belt at 160 Cotto is the true Champ at 154 and Canelo is a fraud with a belt at 154 from bloated Matthew Hatton for the vacant title. That should explain it.
The RING belt is the only legit belt IMO, all the other orgs are corrupt to some degree, WBA and WBC being the worst.
The belts themselves don't mean much. For me it's all about who you beat and how you won it. For instance, the WBC stripping Martinez because of some bogus reason, then handing it to Zbik, who got robbed against JCC jr means that I don't give junior much respect at all. If he beat Martinez, I'd give him all the respect in the world, and call him a champion, but he never beat a champion, therefore he isn't one. At 140 Tim Bradley is the man, as Bradley beat Peterson. At 147 there is a situation where you have two fighters who need to face each other to determine who is the rightful champion. Look at the 168 division, Ward won the super 6, he beat Kessler, Froch and Abraham. He is the rightful champion, Bute holds a belt but is really the number 1 contender, Ward is the champion, and Bute will only be recognised as such if he beat Ward.
Belts stopped losing value when boxers stopped taking on mandatory opponents. It's just an accessory nowadays.
