I can't imagine this fight doing under 1 million buys, most of the people in my county bought the fight, even though Guerrero is not a big name AT ALL, people pay to see Mayweather lose. It's almost like when people used to pay to see Tyson knock some one out this seems to be the case with Mayweather except people want to see him get knocked out!
Seriously, only in boxing do you get fanboys creaming their pants over viewing numbers and the money somebody else earns. I mean, can you imagine Man United and Arsenal fans arguing over match attendances :rofl? Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer fans fighting over sponsorship deals ? Pathetic.
It's never accurate but most of the time it's overstated which means Floyd Guerrero PPV will be about 650K :rofl:rofl:rofl
Whether it was less or more than a million I have no idea, and I doubt you have either, no one can say at this stage. Your point about the break even for the PPV being 1.2m buys, have to agree, can't see Showtime being stupid enough to have it that high, very risky strategy if they did
Its weird because socially I saw more interest in this fight than the Ortiz or Cotto fight. People who I knew who didnt follow boxing were talking about this fight.
Here's the thing you have understand: If Mayweather fights don't sell 1m your life will still go on, your life still has meaning.
Mark this down guys, 17brandif's county is representative of the entire country. Next time you're wondering whether the country supports higher taxes or over the counter birth control, just ask 17brandif what the people In his county think.
That 1.2 number came from Dan Rafael and his sources. Dan is as credible as they come. And even then, it's not as if he said the PPV tanked for certain. He said based on early numbers, it appears to have been a dud. If this fight grossed 84 million, (which I doubt, since it would mean it sold more than the Ortiz fight), that means Showtime ends up with 42 million minus the 32 million Mayweather was guaranteed, Guerrero's 3 million, and the various expenses that went into promoting the fight (advertising, travel, staff). The other 42 million goes to Cable and Satellite companies.
As far as I know the 1 million sales projection refers to direct tv and dish network and not cable sales. I expect this card to do 1.6 million
