Technical skills ain't all there is to boxing. It's been proven time and time again througout the history of the sport, and we never seem to learn. I am stunned.

Madness. Feel very sorry for Cotto after all his hard work but you can't discredit Margarito's heart, chin, stamina. Man's a beast.

    YES.

The guy who DENIES the fact that intangibles can make a huge difference and the fact that eras truly do make it hard to properly analyse fighters, now comes out and admits that intangibles makes COMPLETE difference in a fight like this.

This is exactly why I don't try to mix Harry Greb vs Joe Calzaghe, intangibles such as conditioning, chin, modern training are all too big to properly analyse fights based on style alone.

Now I know why Mayweather retired. The closest he will ever get to Margorito is PPV.

Well between Baldomir and Mayweather, the more technically sound fighter won.

you are wrong,Cotto gets hit too often, and he cant lean on the ropes like Floyd without getting hit. When he leans he gets caught and that has a cummulative effect..

floyd can easily beat Margaritto but many people would have problems.Paul Williams showed us how to beat Margaritto.

Whoever said Cotto was skillful,he is a power puncher.

Bingo. And when you got a guy who whiskers aren't the sturdiest going up against a much bigger man who can crack a bit, there might be a stoppage

The lesson I learned is that being a good body puncher is no good if you can't plant your feet. Margarito's pressure completely nullified Cotto's hook.

So true. Why i saw these traits in Pavlik but not in Margarito had to do with my own biased perceptions. You can't teach chin, stamina, workrate, and determination. You can't measure it. Pavlik has it. So does Margarito.

I never denied that intangibles made a difference. If anything that strengthens my case as to why fighters from past eras would be able to compete with modern fighters, even if they weren't as technically skilled, as so many seem to point out about certain past fighters like LaMotta.

I am stating that technical skills aren't the only criteria, that things like toughness, chin, determination, work ethic, etc all play a hand. I wasn't stating that things like dietary supplements help greatly.

I agree that things like conditioning and chin come into play, but I always take these things into consideration when analyzing a matchup. We simply don't know these things about certain fighters, Cotto being one of them, as he was never tested like that.
