Does anyone think there's probably any rare boxing footage in the Library of Congress that none of us have access to?
In terms of bareknuckle, the first filmed fight was the Leonard Cushing one, which was after LPR was dead. It's possible there's some more exhibitions, or re-enactments with bareknuckle fighters that have been filmed, but there won't be any legit bareknuckle fights. Well actually there was apparently a Jack McAuliffe sparring session filmed a little before that, but they were unhappy as it looked nothing like a real fight. It'd be awesome if that somehow surfaced, but I'm not holding my breath. In terms of bareknuckle fighters there's one of Billy Edwards, and one of Jem Carney in exhibitions out there, but very little footage, atleast that I've seen.
I've always wondered how complete their set of boxing publications were. Like to they have every issue of Ring, Boxing Illustrated, World & International Boxing, etc.?
The University of Notre Dame has an extensive boxing collection. I am sure it has a lot of stuff that the Library of Congress doesn't have, particularly old stuff. They have a web page which gives an overview. I haven't looked at it in years, so I don't know what they've posted.
Well, right now I'm lying in a hospital bed undergoing (at least) three months of cancer treatments. But, generally, I'm close enough to DC, living in Virginia, that it's an option.
