In a situation like this one, it's very hard to make the right decision without harming anyone. Is Wright more important than Montreal boxing scene, witch is more important than Interbox and GYM, or is it only to make Bute look good and calm Zuniga's manager and promotion team before the pull out of Friday's fight ? There is no ideal solution to such a situation, the only thing that can bring all of this together is time. Of course, if the IBF, and the local authorities backed Marlon, it's only for this fight that he is sidelined, just let the dust fall down and we all will be able to move on. Life isn't fair, and this time an honest man is paying, like always....:fire
Good post, but I disagree somewhat. If Interbox and the Regie had thought the credibility of Bute or of boxing in Montreal had been harmed by the way Wright officiated the fight, the Regie should have suspended Wright and Interbox should have given Andrade an immediate rematch. Instead, the Regie washed its hands of the whole affair and Interbox went on all the media to say how they thought Wright had done things by the book. Now, when rogue promoters use Wright as a stick to get a psychological advantage over Bute, Interbox claim that Wright's further involvement with Bute hurts his credibility and that of boxing in Montreal! Now that is hypocritical and self-serving! So what should Interbox have done? They should have said that in their view Wright was a very good, fair referee and that they'd be honoured to have him referee Bute's fight against Zuniga, but that it was the IBF and the Regie who was supposed to decide who should referee the fight anyway, and that they had nothing further to add. :deal
The responsability doesn't rest only on the case of Bute vs Andrade, see, we had to witness a round of over 5 minutes when Ngoudjo fought last time against Urango. Also in MMA, a new thing call Strikebox, from Stéphane Patry was supposed to have their fighters stay on their feet, even if the regular UFC rules were to be applied. But the opponent of the local guy decided to play his way and brought the fight to the floor. So, with all these situations, I think it's not a personnal thing towards Marlon, but an accumulation of suspicious events that could lead the outsiders to put an X to all the credibility Montreal has built over the last 15 - 20 years. Add to that Choko, who's event is not out of the woods yet, and you have a case of imminent problems ahead....
Fightfan of Mtl, you seem to suggest that, even though it is sad Wright is made a scapegoat for all the ills that befell boxing/fighting in Montreal, it is inevitable that he should be made a scapegoat, and hence, that it it somehow reasonable...:huh It is not Interbox' fault that ChoKO had some money problems or that the gala's not selling well, or that the local timekeeper has screwed up badly in two big fights already or whatnot...and it is certainly not their job/right to sacrifice Wright to wash away the above mentioned sins.:deal
Every serious local fan knows Marlon is our best referee, but in the eye of outsiders, things are starting to look like we are going to be seen as a new Germany. As far as credibility is concern. I doubt the intentions of the Regie and Interbox are to use Marlon as the black sheep. and I agree, they should back him in the public eye. But, in order to calm things, they had little to no choice to agree to have someone else referee Bute-Zuniga. I'm not trying to excuse them, but I think they made the right decision for now.
I disagree...it's when things get tough that character is really tested...anyone can do the right thing when it's easy to do so...:good
No u guys dont get it, that's why im here to elighten ya.. Admit it then, that Green is on the level of Bute if not higher.. :bart
I understand your view, it's always better to do the right thing. I guess they overlooked the man behind the job, but it's to serve the big picture.
Based on what? His incredible resume full of victories over top10 ranked super middleweights? (Reality: Zero victory over top10 ranked fighters on his resume) His incredible collection of minor/regional or world titles? (Reality: Zero titles) His incredible amount of 12 rounds fights? (Reality: Not a single 12 round fight in his entire career) So tell me. What has Allan Green done to prove he is on a higher level then Bute?
Sorry for you but he is not on the same level. They have one fighter in common and its Donny McCrary. Bute with 11-0-0 has destroyed this guy in 4 rounds. Green with 19-0-0 have been FLOORED by this guy before getting his tko 6 victory. Bute with 23 fights is a CHAMPION...Green with 27 is not even in the top 10 in any ABC organization. If you need any more info on boxing pm me...:good CAPITCH!!! I know its hard for a green plant like you to understand anything but c'mon, make an effort :hi:
Where ever money is involved, you will find a lot of people willing to sell their souls to the devil. :fire
Nah...Interbox is not evil by any means...I love Interbox. I just think they should have been more careful how they treat Wright, that's all...
