"Il disputait encore un très bon combat avec 30 secondes à écouler au combat et il avait presque remporté tous les rounds.

Subitement, son système nerveux l’a abandonné et nous avons rencontré des médecins qui nous ont expliqué ce qui s’est passé. C’est impossible de devenir fatigué à ce point en quelques secondes ou de passer d’un très bon boxeur à un athlète qui perd tous ses moyens.

Une telle fin de combat peut affecter le mental d’un boxeur, mais Lucian est conscient qu’il n’a pas vécu une telle expérience en raison de la boxe et de sa préparation. Depuis, le début de sa carrière, il a toujours effectué la même préparation et n’a jamais manqué d’énergie dans un combat donc il ne faut pas changer une recette gagnante."

Bute's menu for today (Wednesday) has been a salad; he's still to lose 2.5 kgs...after this morning's training session.

How's the weight and what are you eating?

Bute: "I will train tonight as well, and then tomorrow morning again, before the weigh-in, tomorrow at 2 pm. Until then, I'll have a salad. I hope it's going to be enough until tomorrow's weigh-in! This is the hardest test for me - making weight - only then do I worry about my opponent. To be fair, this time around I will find it harder to make weight because I've already lost 8 kgs, and these things take their toll. Also, I've had quite a long break too, I went back home to my parents for Christmas, and you know what it's like back home, you eat a bit of this and a bit of that and you put on weight."

Is Zuniga your toughest opponent so far? How important is this fight for you?

"I don't know whether Zuniga will be my toughest opponent so far; we'll find that out only on Friday night, but I know he's strong and that he hits hard with both arms - something you can see from his KO ratio. I have to be very careful throughout the fight, so that I don't get caught. I have to win every round because I need to hold on to my title. This fight is very important for me because it will be shown in the US, on Showtime. Americans and American promoters will be able to watch me, to see how good I am, so that maybe I'll get the chance to box in Las Vegas one day. That's where the big money, fame and legacy get made; it's the dream of every pro fighter. Secondly, I'm very happy the fight will be shown in Romania. I'm certain many Romanians will stay up very late to see me."

Any regrets, since you moved to Montreal/Canada?

"My only regret is that my fans in Romania have not been able to watch my fights. I wasn't sorry for myself, but for them, because they were desperate to see my fights. I wanted people to see that I was a worthy champion, not as they [Romanian TV] have portrayed me during those last 30 seconds [against Andrade], in which I struggled."

How do you see your future?

"Next year, at the latest, I intend to become a Canadian citizen. I'm already a permanent resident, I have all the rights that citizens do, but I cannot vote. But that doesn't mean that I will give up my Romanian citizenship. I don't know what the future holds for me, but I know a couple of things: that I will fulfill my contract with Interbox, that I feel very well here [in Montreal/Canada] and that I am appreciated for what I do. For now, it's all good. I'm not thinking further ahead."

Andrade about Bute v. Zuniga:

Andrade: «Zuniga doit y aller pour le K.-O. face à Bute»

«Je crois sincèrement que Bute gagnera vendredi soir, et je le souhaite ardemment, nous a confié Andrade. Je désire réellement obtenir un match revanche contre Bute, et lui, apparemment, souhaite la même chose. C'est magnifique. Sachez que je respecte énormément Lucian, autant comme individu que comme boxeur. Il est remarquable à tout point de vue. Je crois toujours que j'aurais dû être déclaré vainqueur par K.-O. technique durant les derniers instants de notre affrontement le 24 octobre, mais je sais que je pourrai me faire justice dans un éventuel match revanche. Zuniga cogne lourd, mais comme la grande majorité des boxeurs colombiens, il commet beaucoup d'erreurs sur le plan technique, ce qui n'est certainement pas favorable lorsqu'on affronte un boxeur aussi habile et brillant que Bute, dit le boxeur mexicain. Bute est plus rapide, plus mobile et plus rusé que Zuniga. Fulgencio n'a aucune chance de gagner aux points. Il doit absolument y aller pour le K.-O. Mais il va réaliser tôt dans le combat que ce n'est pas une petite affaire d'atteindre solidement Lucian, qui sait protéger sa mâchoire et sait comment exécuter des replis défensifs parfaitement calculés. Le bon sens me dicte de choisir Lucian comme vainqueur.»

Andrade about Tsypko:

«Tsypko place bien ses coups, il est précis, il cogne avec pas mal d'autorité, mais il se doute bien qu'il n'aura pas une soirée reposante avec moi dans les pattes, commente Andrade. Vous connaissez bien mon style. Je pourchasse mes rivaux sans répit, je les frappe souvent, alors ils doivent être extrêmement résistants pour rester debout devant moi durant 12 rounds. J'ai bien hâte au 4 avril.»
