They are both big enough now to deserve to head the bill though; it's nice there is mutual respect and admiration between the Montreal fighters and very good for the local boxing scene! If boxing is good now, imagine how good it will be in 5-10 years' time, as both InterBox and GYM become bigger and better!
Good news for Bute fans - according to an article in the Romanian press: http://www.prosport.ro/articole/bute-pe-hbo/68217 Lucian has caught HBO's eye and there is talk that starting with his fight in summer think Andrade/Lacy???) he might head the bill on HBO!:happy
How big is Bute in Romania? Is he known by the average person there? I can't imagine how huge a Moldovan boxer would be in Moldova if he was just fighting for a world title, let alone became a champion. Those pics you posted are great. His family looks exactly how I pictured them.
He is very big in Romania - even my 80 year-old Granny knows quite a bit about him and watched his last 2 fights!:yep But I guess he would be even bigger on the other side of the Prut... Also, they all think that he is a very good rolemodel and are very proud of his attitude and behaviour outside the ring. There are other very good Romanian sportsmen/women out there too...e.g. Adrian Mutu, for example...he is very famous too - more famous than Bute, of course - but out of all sportsmen out there, Bute seems to be the most respected and liked, as a man, and he is certainly one of the best. The pics are great, yes! It is humbling and heart-warming to see how much Lucian loves and respects his family and acknowledges his roots in such a heart-felt, honest way. His family are hard-working, proud, honest, God-fearing Romanian peasants and are a very good example of Romanian people at their best. :happy The first thing Bute said when he went to Romania and spoke to the press after winning the belt was that he wanted to keep his feet on the ground and remain the same man - I wish him the very best of luck! I think it is his moral qualities more than any other ones that will have had the biggest impact on his career. :good
It's difficult to look shiny and pretty with the history that Romania has had. It has much natural beauty to behold however. For Bute (and the many talented footballers) to make it in western europe/canada and still keep their feet on the ground is a bigger achievement than most other famous people in the western world can even comprehend.
Yeah...you're right! It used to be much better before 50 years of Communism and 15 years of post-Communism...which destroyed the people and their mentality first and foremost - it will take it at least another 30-50 years to recover, I think...There are still huge political problems to overcome - the old guard and all they stood for is still going strong! And so much looks ugly and nasty now...:-(
There are talks about HBO coming to Montreal for Pascal-Miranda with possibly Alcine-Forrest on the same card. I guess HBO will want to come more then once this summer. Like ESPN did last year. The Montreal boxing scene is catching the eye of the big tv network south of the border. arty
Also with Interbox telling the press that they are in good position to win a purse bid against Dawson's promoter. I'm guessing they are very close to a deal with HBO to broadcast that fight too.
That would be great! It would be amazing for the fans to see Dawson v. Diaconu and Bute v. Top 15 guy in their back yard in the space of hours/days/weeks???
He actually reminds of Povetkin a lot. He has that same regular, nice family guy presence and doesn't seem to care a lot about being the biggest star in the world. Povetkin said that one of the things he hates the most is posing for photographs. Those pictures from Romania just make me feel good though. Next time I'll be cheering for Bute because I like him, not cheering while screaming at him to get the stoppage victory faster against Berrio with money on the under. That was my favorite betting-adrenaline moment of all time. He finished Berrio literally a couple seconds before it would have been too late.
