    After the Calzaghe v. Kessler fight, Lucian was asked what he thought and whether he wanted a crack at Joe or Mikkel. He said he wasn't at all close to being ready to compete against someone as good as Joe or Mikkel yet...he would still need time to develop and learn, to have a chance...

    ...Lucian Bute is no Carl Froch ;)

    Good news from the last video...Bute weighs 183 lbs = 83 kg...so, not as much as I thought at all...he'll take all the fat down and add some muscle no problem by 29th February...

    ...also...did you see Diaconu taking no time off at all to chat to Bute, as he was hitting that bag with much resolve?;)

    Lucian Bute était un spectateur attentif et discret au Centre Bell, vendredi, lors de la victoire de l'autre champion de boxe québécois, Joachim Alcine.

    Il a aussi vu à l'oeuvre Jean Pascal, un boxeur de la même catégorie qui n'a pas eu un combat facile face à Brian Norman.

    Pascal a déjà manifesté son intérêt pour affronter Bute, qui se dit prêt à relever le défi dans les prochains mois.


    "Pourquoi pas, se dit Bute. Je suis champion maintenant, je suis prêt pour n’importe qui. Dans le prochain mois, la prochaine année... Pourquoi pas? Ça serait un gros combat à Montréal. Tout le monde attend ça."

    "On est présentement en négociations avec trois groupes et évidemment, on veut que les conditions nous avantagent le plus possible en terme de rentabilité d’événement, déclare pour sa part Stéphane Larouche. On va faire affaires avec celui qui acceptera nos conditions."

    Basicely, Bute is saying that he wouldn't mind fighting Pascal in 2008. He says that fight would be big in Montreal and everyone wants to see it.

    Larouche says they are talking to 3 potential opponents for his first title defense. They will fight the person who will accept all their conditions.

    Who do you think are the 3 candidates?

    We heard Sanavia, Andrade and Stieglitz in the past but 2 of those names are now out of the way with Andrade fighting on the undercard instead and Stieglitz fighting a title eliminator in Febuary.

    I'm thinking the two other names are Gogiya, Hanshaw and maybe Zuniga who's rated 10th by the IBF at 160lbs.

    It would be a packed house at the Bell Centre (21000) plus +3 millions watching on tv in Québec alone. :lol:

    But more seriously. I was looking at the ranking of the other sanctioning bodies and saw Jean Paul Mendy. We pretty much forgot all about him since his draw against Hanshaw on Showtime but he fought recently and I think he would make a pretty decent challenger for a first title defense. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to get him ranked by the IBF.

    I'm mentioning Mendy because he doesn't have a promoter and his career his pretty much going no where. This should make the negotiation process easier for Interbox.

    Who was better: Hanshaw or Mendy? It was called a draw, but one of the two is better - who? Anyone know?

    Sanavia beat Haussler, even though it was called a draw, but he doesn't last more than 6-8 rounds these days, at Championship pace...

    Pascal would be by far the best fight for Bute in February - it would be a good fight for Pascal too, even if he loses, if he gives a good account of himself, because it would show he was ready to fight against some of the best, was hungry, not overprotected and it would put him on the map a bit more, and give him some badly needed experience against a very good fighter, I think...which might help him get that fight against Miranda for the WBO eliminator...

    What a first defence it would be if Bute fought Pascal!:admin :admin :admin

    Hardly a "Gimme"...more of a "Look at me, I am giving a young, hungry, live, good promissing up-and-comer the chance of a lifetime"...

    ...I would be so happy and proud if this fight could be made, for both men...:yep
