For bored Bute fans who are tired of feeding the trolls:- 1. Which likely available sparring partners (i.e. non-world-class) would you pick for Bute to help improve his inside game for an eventual fight with Ward and why? (video evidence would be great for this) 2. In order of importance, which of Froch's attributes are you most worried about? 3. Outside his inside game, which other specific parts of his game would you focus on to make Bute a better fighter, in general? :good
1. Bute needs to improve his answer to a fast tricky inside fighter and the answer may not be to become a better inside fighter; it's like asking Ward to improve his punching power. Bute and Ward , great athletes, great technicians; both will try to get the upper ground by imposing their best weapons while nullifying those of the opponent: Bute's power and timing may keep Ward on the outside letting him with only the jab or Ward coming fast inside and traping Bute's left while pushing him taking power out of the play. 2 . Also i'm a fan of Froch, his greatest attribute will get him KO'ed: Will alone won't close the value gap between them, but you never know. 3 Which other specific parts of his game (his game is boxing) would i focus on to make Bute a better fighter, in general??? That has an simple answer: elite opponents in official matches
Very good point. Still, Ward is so great at fighting inside and Bute won't be allowed by the ref to push him away as he usually likes to do. Given how utterly hopeless he is on the inside, he absolutely needs to get at least a little bit better to have any chance, especially against Ward, who also happens to be good on the outside and at mid-distance. But maybe you're right, maybe Bute simply cannot get better inside. Regarding point 3. I meant, which aspects of his technique should he work on.:good
1. Bute is training with Matt Korobov and Dyah Davis, in Florida. To prepare for Ward, I'd pay decent money to Chad Dawson who could lose a decision to BHop in April. 2. Relentlessness, right hand punching power, overall will/chin. 3. Good question. Maybe an attempt at switch hitting? I'm sure an orthodox left hook from Bute would be devastating. :smoke
1- I often wondered why no fighters have tried to exploit the inside game with Bute... I guess the answer probably relies on his ease going to the body and more specifically his natural instincts to put his body and feet in a position to land something of significance. Besides the previously mentioned, Bute is now a big SMW which is fairly strong himself, therefore I would think twice before trying to spend too much time on the inside against him. 2- Froch's reach and awkward style. But if Bute can't conveniently overcome anything Froch brings into the ring, I would be very disappointed. I've been saying for years now that Froch is and always was a limited fighter which has maximized his potential like possibly none other. 3- The one thing that I am most intrigued about is how Bute will cope with superior speed. He's never been in the ring with someone that has quicker hands than he does. Ward & Dirrell both have quicker hands and I think he needs to face more guys, possibly smaller but with great hand speed if he wants to eventually properly deal with Ward & Dirrell's speed.
:good Korobov is a lefty... Dawson wouldn't spar with Bute... they're bound to fight for real, given the Pascal connection. Bute needs a good right hook for sure.
It's actually become quite good, he just needs to be more fluid when using it and using it more often.
1. Hard, very hard to pick one. Hopkins perfect choice also impossible, Bika good choice tho I don't think he'll travel from Australia, Glen should be good and the one is most probable to be. 2. Uppercut which I believe is the only punch that Bute is most vulnerable against, and the only one that could land flush on him. Especially close up, quick and powerful uppercut like I saw Ward doing it once. Also the wild dashes and furies that could upset Bute's rhythm and balance and mess up his fighting distance. Also in total chaos created by that Froch might catch him with few good shots, if not hurting him then definitely scoring on judges scorecards. 3 He already did, guess it's part of his outside game. The area were he should improve is keeping fighters at the perfect distance for him, forcing them to be there. So the perfect answer will be counter-punching while the other tries to go inside. Did that with his right hook, that has been developing since Magee and seems it is almost perfected. Probably because his fighting style he sucks at clinching to the other thing it should be defense at close and super-close range. Locking an opponent perfect in clinches or getting out of there without getting tagged.
Nice point by drozzy he should make is right hand more useful more active more dangerous so his opponents could not worry about his left only.
10/10 on 3-, I'd also add the fact that against Ward, he'd have to be more fluid in general, and not take so many breaks in between bouts of activity - one of the great things about Ward is how he keeps throwing from all angles, from all distances, from all positions, without pausing and resetting, as Bute sometimes likes to do. Would he not spend too much nervous energy if he had to take fewer breaks and reset? That could be a problem.
Yeah, he's been working on it for at least 18 months now, but you're right, it's still not fluid enough. It's almost as if he has to think to use it first.
