I think that's the plan. If not Kessler it will be another big name. I think Bute's team want to continue his development in 2008 and look for the big fight in 2009.
Yeah...2008 is for development...that's what it looks like and it makes sense. 2009 is for Kessler! There isn't a bigger name than him...and Mikkel will want to get it on with Lucian too!:good
You want a prediction on a Bute-Kessler fight? Right now I say Kessler wins (80%). In about a year if Bute fights good opposition, continues his development and gain more confidence. I'd say it could be a 50/50 fight.
Yeah...but if Taylor is getting beat again at 160, he's not going to be the man at 168 either...I think. He might fight a couple of have-been NAMES and retire.:think
Heres another article about Bute: http://www.canoe.com/sports/nouvelles/archives/2008/02/20080201-122228.html Doesn't talk much about boxing tho...
It's a little dead so why don't we talk about the possible opponent after Joppy. Since Andrade will be fighting in March. I guess we can rule him out for Bute's second title defense. Especially since Andrade will most likely be fighting in an IBF Title Eliminator against Stieglitz. I know there were discussions about Bute maybe fighting Andrade on the undercard of DLH's fight in May. Maybe Bute could end up fighting another GBP 168lbs fighter, Jeff Lacy. Another possibility is a fight against Allan Green. Hopefully american TV would be willing to step in this time and make this fight happen. There is also the possibility that Us tv will not be showing Bute's next fight. Which would be a big mistake from Interbox if they let that happen. But if it's the case. We could end up with another desapointing opponent. While Bute waits for his mandatory title defense against the winner of Andrade-Stieglitz. The rankings can change a lot in the next few months but right now. I don't think they could afford anyone other then the winner of Sanavia-Haussler III. All the other guys would require tv money to be able to pay them.
Nice avatar, Maxime...!:good I think InterBox need to step up to the plate after Joppy. If they don't, whether rightfully or not, it'll look as if they're milking that belt for all it's worth whilst making promisses about how Bute is going to fight this big fight against...Kessler, possibly, next year...to keep the fans happy through all these worthless defences. Yeah, Bute needs time to learn and develop and it's more than OK that he should be given that time. However, Bute needs to fight competitive opponents too, if he is to improve and not plateau. I have no interest in seeing the Sanavia v. Haussler winner after Joppy. One gimme defence is more than enough. Lacy...is finished. Might be good if Bute fought him, but mainly because he's American and the fight would be aired in the US, if it happened. Don't think Lacy will want to fight Bute, though. I think he might wait for the loser of Tarver v. Woods (i.e. Tarver), or even Johnson, if he struggles badly against Dawson... Then, there's the Kessler factor! Kessler is fighting a "name opponent in summer" and Kessler is more of a draw than Bute and a tougher competitor...wouldn't you rather lose to Kessler than Bute if you were Lacy? Allan Green might decide to take the Kessler challenge instead of the Bute challenge too! Allan Green would be good too, like Lacy, because he would be competitive and would give Bute exposure in the USA. Miranda would be good too; I don't think he'll be fighting Pascal this summer anymore...so...he might take it... Bute said he'd fight 3-4 times this year...Joppy, Lacy/Green, Miranda, Andrade...now, that would be a very good year! Joppy, Sanavia, Lacy, Andrade...not a very good year, but acceptable, I guess...I would consider it a missed opportunity, though. Joppy, Sanavia, some other random name and Andrade...well, that would be a shitty year... From my point of view, if Bute is not to become a bit of a laughing stock after Joppy, InterBox will have to get him a good fight against a Lacy/Green or preferably Miranda level opponent, preferably one that is on US TV.
Don't think so...much better fights at SMW with Pavlik and/or Taylor moving up and Hopkins, Johnson, Tarver retiring...Kessler is young, he can make weight, he says he wants to win his SMW belts back and even add some new ones to his collection...I don't see him moving up at all, unless it's for the occasional fght against a has-been legend, for a lot of money. Needs to prove he is the man at 168 before he gets such a fight, though.
I agree with you. I forgot about Miranda (I don't know why). He would be a pretty decent opponent for this summer. PS: My avatar is the very talented young actress from Canada, Ellen Page. She received a "Best Actress" nomination at the Oscar recently.
