I agree, and the sooner the better. Bute is not going to start training again until early April...early June is the earliest date for another fight, I think. He has to defend his mandatory by mid July. This means he will fight his mandatory next - the winner of Andrade v. Stieglitz who fight on the 22nd of March. The fight will very likely be on an undercard in the USA, especially if Andrade wins, most likely on the undercard of Pavlik and Abraham on the 7th of June at MSG. It's a shame it doesn't look like he will make the Mosley v. Judah, Barrio v. Juarez, Ponce de Leon v. Caballero and Lacy HBO PPV in Las Vegas on the 31st of May...this is what I would do... Anyway...this all means he is free to fight whomever he wants at the end of the year. His next mandatory would be at the beginning of March at the latest...one year from now...this is when the Kessler fight could happen. Only 2 more fights before Kessler after Joppy? Or would the Kessler fight happen after the mandatory?
A fight I'd love to see. Works well for both guys, if Mundine wins (my bet would be placed in this catagory) he has a good name on his resume to break into the American scene, if Lucian wins he cements his place as Kesslers next major bout (considering Joe won't fight at 168 again).
Joppy, Andrade + another voluntary, this year...doesn't look that great...unless the voluntary is Taylor/Mundine/Miranda/Green... Next year...first fight in February/early March - mandatory...who knows...maybe Kessler, maybe someone else...and another 2 fights...just like this year... Bute is a 3 fights/year fighter...and we hoped he could fight 4 a year...:think
