I think you'll be too excited to sleep. There's no point trying. You'll just lie there thinking about the fact that you didn't post about Bute's jab vs Joppy's jab or something like that. You'll stew on it for a bit, toss and turn, then eventually give in and boot up your computer again.

    See you in 45 minutes.

This is stupid, but it is not the en d of the world or an athlete. Many of them don't sleep well anyway the night before a bout. And he probably had a nice long nap this afternoon. He won't be tired for one single bad night. Stupid thing to do though. Not much class.

By the way, Bute's contract with Interbox ends in March. They are in negotiation right now. No 2nd title defense until that is settled. ;)

Damned right! Boxing is a business!

Any chance at all Bute might leave InterBox? Could he be tempted by an American promoter AT ALL?

I think Interbox have been great for him so far. Really amazing. Without Interbox he wouldn't be champ now. But I also think they might need to up their game a bit and get him better fights in the future, as far as possible, for his gain as well as theirs...are they a big enough/rich enough/influential enough outfit to get Bute big fights he is ready for? We shall see.:good

I think he is better off with Interbox. It's like a big family. IF he signs with a big promoter he will have to leave his friends in Montreal, his trainer and a his fans.

With Don King, Golden Boy Promotion, Dibella and Top Ranks he would just be another dude in the staple that the promoter wouldn't really care about.

With Interbox he is the star and the main attraction. Everything at Interbox is built around Bute and his well being.

I agree 100%. If I was his advisor, I'd say: "Lucian, you must stay with Interbox! They are best for you. "

    Joppy retires!

After 45 fights and three world championships, William Joppy decided to call it a career Friday night after being stopped for only the second time in his career by IBF super-middleweight champion Lucian Bute. “He’s going to go on to bigger and better things and so am I, but for me it won’t be boxing,” said the fifteen year professional from his locker room after the fight.
Joppy, whose face looked every bit as battered and bruised as the hideous minefield that followed the Bernard Hopkins unification bout in 2003, agreed that at 37 years old, his best days are now behind him. “Maybe it was father time, but I saw shots in there, body shots, but I just couldn’t pull the trigger. It just wasn’t there.”
Joppy who held the WBA middleweight crown on three separate occasions was fighting in his fifteenth title fight, his first at super-middleweight. Considered a short middleweight at 5’9”, Lucian Bute towered over the Washington fighter who constantly held onto the ropes for balance and had no answers for the southpaw’s vicious left hands and uppercuts. The Romanian born Bute who scored his 18th knockout in 22 fights joined Felix Trinidad as just the second fighter to stop the usually durable Joppy who took home an extra $50,000 when he faced Bernard Hopkins, winning a bet that the undisputed champ couldn’t stop him.

“That was my last professional fight; I’m not motivated about boxing no more. I love the game of boxing, don’t get me wrong, but I’m moving on.” In addition to Hopkins and Taylor, Joppy’s resume also includes the likes of Julio Caesar Green who he fought three times, the great Roberto Duran, and Jermain Taylor.

Bute says he is taking a month off and that his next fight is most likely in May...:huh

[strange, since he needs to defend against mandatory by the 19th of July...Andrade v. Stieglitz winner in May? Is he going to be ready? They fight in 3 weeks...

Larouche also wants the ace of the InterBox stable to get a taste of fighting outside of Montreal, where he has huge fan support, to prepare for future bouts against high profile opponents on neutral ground.

Speculation has already begun on big money fights against Taylor or Kelly Pavlik, but

Optional in May and mandatory in mid July? Bute needs to start training earlier than early April then...to make the voluntary in May early May, to give himself a good chance against Andrade.

Big undercards in the US in May are:

3rd of May: de la Hoya v. Forbes - HBO
10th of May: Vernon Forrest v. Sergio Mora - Showtime
31st of May: Mosley v. Judah, Barrios v. Juarez, Ponce de Leon v. Caballero and Lacy - HBO PPV - this is the best one...could it be Lacy next??? Isn't 31st of May too late if Bute has to defend against Andrade by the 19th of July? Maybe not...

19th of July is Cotto v. Mayorga by the way, but that is Arum, not GBP.
