I have a feeling Maxime thinks I am becoming a liability to Bute's drive towards world domination...:-( Sorry, Maxime! :hail
Decebal, are you leaving us because you don't like Bute's next opponent? Wait until we know for sure. I can't wait to see him against good opposition, because I think he's ready for anyone. Losing is not the end of the world, he would give good opposition even to Calzaghe and Kessler. But when we look at a possible opponent, it's difficult to find one. Green is out now. Inkin and Froch are busy. And we can go on like this as much as we like. I'm sure Interbox would love him to fight Lacy, but you need to be 2 to dance. Maybe he should fight Andrade in June?
Manfredo: Id like to go back down to 160 (pounds) because I feel Im too small fighting some of these guys. Its not that I cant fight at super middleweight, but I want to be the best I can, and I think thats at middleweight. I only plan on boxing until Im 30, so I have three years left to make one last run at aworld title. Lets see how I do against guys my size. Im not sure when Ill be fighting at 160. Im thinking maybe my next fight will be at 165. Benfields a big guy who fought as a cruiserweight. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=14713&more=1 :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi:
Bute, to the Romanian press, on his return to Romania: [About Dorin, who had suggesed Joppy was not the strongest opponent out there, for Bute, and that he - Dorin - had only fought great, dangerous challengers and Champions in his day, unlike Bute, in this case]: "I didn't speak with Dorin; I only saw what he said in the media. I am not affected by anything he said; it's his business; I know what I need to do. I know what my life is and what I want from it!" [To those who contested the calibre of Joppy]: "The American was champion for six years; he was very experienced and very good. How can you doubt his worth? It was a fight I learned from!" [To questions whether he was thinking of targeting the unification of his title with other titles]: I am not in a hurry; I'm only 28 and don't want to jump in at the deep end for the sake of it, for some extra money. First, I need to gain more experience; I need to be ready - then I will see what I'll do. The moment will come when I'll fight in a unification fight, I'll promise you that!" [About his next opponent]: "I will most likely fight again at the end of May, but I don't know who my next opponent will be. I need this coming fight though; in autumn I will fight the mandatory challenger." [To those awaiting him at the airport]: "I hope you'll come to meet me every time and I hope to be always able to return to you victorious!" http://www.prosport.ro/alte-sporturi/alte-sporturi/bute-nu-ma-afecteaza-declaratiile-lui-dorin-2438615 ----------------------------------------------------- In another interview a couple of weeks back, he was saying he hoped to keep the belt for 10 years! I thought it was a figure of speech, but maybe he wants to model his career on that of Calzaghe...in that case, we might have to wait 10 years before he fights the other big name in the division; perhaps by then, he'll think he's ready! Seriously, though...don't expect Bute to get into big, hard fights to prove himself early on - he will take his time, whatever everyone else says. And if we don't like it, tough! 'Cause this is how he's going to play it! It's his career after all! Also, don't be surprised if he doesn't fight toe-to-toe more, or if he doesn't take more risks in fights to stop the other guy. This is not how you sustain your career for another ten years. Slow and easy; sensibly does it - fighting with your head, not with your chin. The way Bute is currently fighting and planning his career, it will be a long career, and he'll end up dominating the division - he'll be the next Calzaghe, but don't expect him to burn himself out at both ends to set the world alight in a big bang or two... Also, expect him to look after that "0" in the loss column - Bute doesn't seem to fancy taking a valiant loss and learning a lot from that and coming back much stroger; he'd much rather take a less impressive win, learn a little from that and come back a little stronger. Just my two cents...
It seems that Dorin is jealous that Bute is viewed as a better boxer and greater champion (already) than he was. Dorin was very loved in Romania and he cashed in on the public's admiration and love. But he was never half as loved or admired as Bute is already...
