Interbox drops another hint, I think: "À son retour, il devrait savoir si la deuxième défense optionnelle de sa ceinture se fera à Montréal, au Danemark ou en Allemagne, à la fin de mai ou à la mijuin." http://www.canoe.com/sports/nouvelles/archives/2008/03/20080310-120601.html translation: "on his return [from Romania], he [Bute] should know whether his second optional defence will take place in Montreal, in Denmark or in Germany, at the end of May or in mid-June" ...so, no Lacy in the USA on HBO PPV! We're talking Larsen in Denmark, or Sartison in Germany, right? Surely, it's too early for Beyer, Braehmer must have other plans - will go for the WBO or WBA title himself soon, and Haussler is too limited (crap) Unless Braehmer is on the cards, I vote for Larsen in Denmark, under the circumstances.
I think it's Larsen in Denmark or Germany. Sartison isn't ready to fight for a title yet. It's a shame Bute is avoiding Kessler. A card with Kessler against a top-10 guy (Miranda) as the main event and Bute vs. Larsen on the undercard in Denmark, with the winners fighting each other would be really big.
IMHO, people should stop saying Bute is avoiding Kessler. Yes, he has stated that he's not ready for Kessler but really, it's not like it's THE fight that should be made at 168 like Calzaghe-Kessler was. There are plenty of interesting fights that are possible at 168 lbs. As promoters, Palle and Interbox are aware that there will be MUCH more money in a Bute-Kessler fight in a year or so. So why waste an opportunity to make great money by making this fight right now ?
Bute is ducking Kessler because he says he is not ready to fight someone as good as that. He says he needs a good couple of fights, more experience and much improvement before he is competitive against Kessler. He is right. He says he hopes to be ready for Kessler by this time next year. We'll hold him by that, if he remains unbeaten.
This is true. This fight will be much better in a year or so and the money will be better too. No point in rushing Bute or getting Kessler to fight him right after the defeat. Kessler can improve too, and Bute too...Next year...
The IBF rankings were updated. No changes at 168lbs. But I noticed a few names that I beleive are new additions to the rankings at 175 lbs. #13 at 175lbs: Jesse Brinkley #14 at 175lbs: Rachid Kanfouah #15 at 175lbs: Antonio Brancalion Could be a clue. :huh
Let's hope it's not a clue. Brinkley...well, we know how good he is... ...the other two are journeymen, nothing more; not even very good journeymen.
Il faut voir qui va être disponible.» http://www.cyberpresse.ca/article/20080312/CPSPORTS09/803120780/5232/CPSPORTS09 Latest IBF Rankings: SMW - 07 -03 - 2008 CHAMPION : Lucian Bute CanadaTitle won : Mandatory : Defended : 1 NOT RATED 2 Vitaly Tsypko Ukraine3 Jurgen Brahmer Germany4 Robert Stieglitz Germany5 Librado Andrade United States6 Jean Pascal Canada7 This content is protected Colombia8 Mikkel Kessler Denmark9 Alejandro Berrio Colombia10 Sakio Bika South Africa11 Jeff Lacy United States12 Allan Green United States13 This content is protected Italy14 This content is protected Germany15 This content is protected Hungary Latest IBF Rankings: LHW - 07 -03 - 2008 WBA anny GreenAustraliaWBC :Chad DawsonUnited StatesWBO :Zsoit ErdeiHungary 1 NOT RATED 2 NOT RATED 3 Bernard Hopkins United States4 Antonio Tarver United States5 Tavoris Cloud United States6 Roy Jones, jr United States7 Yuri Barashain Ukraine8 Reggie Johnson United States9 Thomas Ulrich Germany10 Julio Gonzalez United States11 Aleksy Kuziemsky Poland12 Silvio Branco Italy13 Jesse Brinkley United States14 Rachid Kanfouah France15 Antonio Brancalion Italy Better not be Brinkley or Branco!
Bute needs to fight someone decent this time around. Haussler is awful...truly awful. He is not worthy of a title shot, except perhaps at Euro level, and even there, he lost to Sanavia. Jesse Brinkley is, again, truly bad! This guy is nothing more than a journeyman. A modest journeyman too! I cannot see who else it could be except these two, and they're truly bad. It would be a digrace if Bute fought either! (Larsen is not in the top 15 either at SMW or at LHW, with the IBF. It looks like it won't be him.)
Why not Allan Green in Dubai? Just kidding. Why not Jeff Lacy. Was there an offer made? Was it refused?
You think the ABCs really care if a guy is ranked in their top 15 ? We have seen many times in the past a championship fight being made between a champion and a guy not even ranked in the top 15 only to have that guy appear in the rankings a few weeks later. All this to say that Bute could fight Larsen, even if he is not in the top 15 right now. As long as he is on the day of the fight.
I don't know if an offer was made but I read an interview in which Lacy said he is looking for an "easy" fight before he fights a big name.
