Ali famously lost his 0 in the FOTC to Frazier, Frazier loses to Foreman, Foreman loses to Ali, Ali then loses to Norton but reclaims it in the rematch, Ali loses his 0 to Leon Spinks then reclaims it, then loses to Holmes, Holmes loses to Michael Spinks, who then loses to Mike Tyson, Tyson loses to Buster Douglas, Buster loses to Holyfield, Holyfield then loses to Bowe, reclaims Ali’s 0, then loses it again. Bowe retires with Ali’s 0. It’s funny that both Spinks brothers had Ali’s 0 at one point, as well as the fact that 5 (arguable) top 10 HWs held Ali’s 0 (Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, and Holyfield). I’ll try find whose 0 has the longest lineage at some point but I think it’s a pretty fun to follow wherever the string leads.
You confused me on this part - Ali fought Foreman after the first 2 Norton fights, & only Leon had an "0" at the time of their fights.
Yeah you’re right, Norton never had Ali’s 0. The principle though isn’t which undefeated fighter’s Ali faced but that he lost his undefeated record to Frazier, who then “owned” his 0 and anyone who defeats the current owner of Ali’s 0 then becomes the lineal owner of Ali’s 0.
Jeffries' 0 was retired alongside Gene Tunney and Louis' 0 which was briefly held by Schmeling ended up with Marciano. Both those 0s ended with two champs who retired undefeated.
Two Ton Tony Galento lost his to Johnny Alberts, who in turn lost it to Harry Slaughter, before getting knocked out by Herman Weiner, who got sparked out against Marty Gallagher, who retired in his corner against Johnny Grosso, who got disqualified by way of low blow against Rosy Rosales, who got disqualified all the same against Jack Barry, who quit against Frank Florian, before quitting against and passing it back to Barry, before getting knocked out by Tommy Taylor, who quit against K O Husk, who quit against Mickey Solomen, who dropped a split decision against Jack Wilson, who quit against Joe Mach, who got knocked out against Eddie Carr, who then quit against Tommy Walsh and... I'll get to the bottom of this later. Legend has it that Galento's 0 is still getting passed around today.
Please find out. The Tony belt should just about be canon on this forum. I’ll figure out the Preem belt for us all.
Following Walcott's 0 was a trip, I did not expect who it would end up into. Walcott lost his second fight in September 1930 by DQ by fouling his opponent while they were draped over the ropes but otherwise he was dominating the match. The guy who won via DQ proceeded to retire after this fight, but this is boring so I'm going to overlook it as he was gifted a fight in which he was being dominated. The next fight Walcott loses is against Carl Mays whom he rematches and beats immediately, reclaiming his 0. He then rematches Henry Taylor (whom he had previously knocked out) and loses a decision, in November 1933. Taylor loses to Johnny Peppe who loses to Marty Sampson who loses to fearsome puncher Allen Mathews. Mathews loses to Alabama Kid but immediately rematches and beats, then loses to George Nichols who gives up the 0 to none other than John Henry Lewis in his next fight. Lewis loses to Philadelphia's Al Ettore whom he rematches and defeats. He then loses to Isidor Gastanaga whom he rematches and knocks out. After a 16 win streak John loses to some chinny guy called Joe Louis and then retires in 1939. Louis would go on to beat people up until 1950 and weirdly enough none of the heavyweights around can put him away until Ezzard Charles decisions him. Walcott finally reclaims his 0, 18 years after he lost it, when he knocks out Ezzard Charles and ends his massive steak in July 1951. He then proceeds to lose it to Rocky Marciano in 1952, who becomes its last holder.
I appreciate it. I'm still young, and I'm not in a gym at the moment (My old gym was more of a community enrichment thing, and I grew out of it a bit quickly), but I'm planing on relocating and working through with a gym soon before getting my boxing license. I'm a Middleweight myself. 5'11, 75" wingspan, I got good genetics for thr game.
Chuck Wepner lost his 0 to Bob Stallings, who then lost the 0 to Buster Mathis, who then lost it to Frazier, who lost it to Foreman, who lost it to Ali, who lost & regained it vs. Leon, then lost it to Holmes, who then lost it to M. Spinks, who lost it to Tyson, who lost it to Douglas, who lost it to Holyfield, who lost & regained it vs. Bowe, then lost it to Moorer, who then lost to Foreman, who lost to Briggs, who lost to Lennox, who lost & regained the 0 vs. Rahman, then retired w/ Wepner's 0. Proof positive that Wepner is the GOAT.
I lost my ‘0’ (but discovered my O Face) to Julie in high school & its whereabouts were ever after lost to time.
