At the Pines Resort in the summer of 1962, they guy worked out for 8 hours a day,
Starting out with 5 mile runs at 5:30 AM.

A brief break, then uphill runs for an hour, with heavy work boots on.

The 18 year-old track kids up in the Catskills could not keep up with him.

Now this in 1962, when he was listed as 30 years of age, but presumably closer to
    34/35.

Totally different guy in 1964 out in Las Vegas at the Thunderbird, and then in
Miami Beach at the Surfside Community Center.

Liston was thicker, and not muscle-toned when entering versus Cassius Clay.
He clearly was physically strong, but not in-shape.

A perfect Sonny Liston 208-210 lbs.

    big deal ???
when i was 22 years old they hit me in the face with a piece of wood. broke my lower jaw on both sides (couldn't eat or talk normal for 8 weeks).. let me tell you something if you fight on with a broken jaw for several rounds that is a big deal.. i wasn't able fight on...... or maybe you are superman

  6. the best liston weighed 212, not 208. and he had a big structure of bones, he was a very strong guy, tyson was more explosive, but liston was stronger, no doubt about it.

In 1962, at The Pines, Willie Reddish had to slow him down in training, because he
got down to 206 lbs. and started to look a little freakish.

The food and beverage manager up their, Guy Morgan, had to make big milk shakes
all day long, to keep Sonny from dropping weight.

Liston appeared on the Ed Sullivan show once in 1963 and skipped rope to the tune Night Train...it was for just a few minutes, and i remember my dad saying "he could go on for an hour" if he wanted to, just bouncing in place with that rope. Liston was respected as a brute by boxing fans like my dad..they like Patterson better but knew he had no chance.

There's so much mystery about Liston. He's shrouded in controversy and mystery..those two losses to Ali aren't just as they seem to be. Add to that his death and the cloud of confusion over that..

    i'll get that:good

  15. Many fans of liston take advantage of this controversy in the dates to say that he was 60 years old when he fought against wepner, or 40 when he faced ali, it is ridiculous.

i think that he was not more than 5 years older than his age on his "official date"
