My intention was not to denigrate Patterson, a fine fighter and good man. My apologies for sounding disrespectful.
But in all honesty he was a small cruiserweight by today's standards and he was scared to death of Sonny. Those sre simply facts.

If, like Machen, you weren't afraid of him, had a serious speed advantage on him, were technically sound and had excellent mobility and skills, you could decision him.

Tunney had those advantages. So did Tommy Loughran, and Sonny didn't have the rhythm breaking speed to suddenly catch Tommy like Sharkey did in their first match. No, I do not like Liston's chances against Loughran. It's Tommy's schooling of Max Baer all over again.

Yet, I'm the biased one? You're so obsessed with your convicted ****** you try to build him and his resume up as the best thing since sliced bread. Get of the niigga's diick. Dayum!

I think I'm farily realistic in my estimation of Tysons resume and head to head ability, and I stand behind all of those statements.

You on the other hand have a clear agenda, and remind me, who was the one that started **** talking Tyson in a thread where he isn't even mentioned?

Boxing expert Ron Lipton rates Liston as the second best heavy of all time right after Ali. I certainly rate him in the top ten. Very few men I would bet against if they fought the Liston who fought Nino Valdez, Patterson, Williams, etc. He was shot by the Ali fight.

I agree, Sonny makes my top ten head to head with no trouble.

Plenty of people rank him in their top 10 HWs of all-time list. I do consider him a great fighter, just not as great as some people do. H2H? I'd favor at least 11 fighters over him.

    Except that Machen lost!:huh

Baer never had a jab or much of a left hand at all.
Liston could box ,you aren't holding him off with just a left jab and, fine as his was , Tommy didn't have much else.
Tunney is a different kettle of fish, he had great movement ,and a hurtful accurate right cross to go with his jab.

When it comes to past ATG's, we know so much, yet so little...
