Heap some praise on the little men.

My top 10 from Super Bantamweight down to Straweight:

    1 - Israel Vasquez
    2 - Rafael Marquez
    3 - Ivan Calderon
    4 - Fernando Montiel
    5 - Celestino Caballero
    6 - Juan Manuel Lopez
    7 - Vic Darchinyan
    8 - Nonito Donaire
    9 - Roman Gonzalez
10 - Hazumi Hasegawa (just ahead of Ulises Solis)

    Do you agree or disagree?

Have I left out an obvious candidate? Tell me.

Mix and match / delete and add at will.

    Lets have your lists.

Roman Gonzalez shouldn't be in there. His record looks impressive, but he isn't anything special. I'd still have Mijares in there, despite the Darchinyan defeat, he's a quality fighter. The others are all good choices, I couldn't be sure of the ordering though.

Just goes to show how packed with talent some of the little divisions are, it's a shame they don't get as much exposure as the bigger guys.

Gonzales looked really impressive in winning the title against Niida, who himself is a good fighter. He's only 21 and won world title in his 21ist fight against the top man in his division and isn't anything special?

I agree. I'd have Mijares in there.

There was hardly a top man in the minimumweight division though, and not any stand out guys.

I've seen the fight, I don't think he looked anything special.

    Word:deal

Niida was top-dog, and was making his 9th defence (I think); Gonzalez beat him to bits in his (Niida's) hometown.

Tommy V has a bit of a point though; Gonzalez looks like the next Ricardo Lopez (not necessarily fighting style, but more the ability to dominate the lower weights class for years), but at the moment it is more that outstanding potential that gets him on my list (rather than accomplishments). I have no problem with anyone who moves him out and brings someone like Solis into their ten.

I wouldn't have JuanMA above Vic and Nonito beneath The Raging Bull. Other than that, nice list

I think you mostly have the right people, but the wrong order. I'd say:

    1. Israel Vasquez
    2. Rafael Marquez
    3. Ivan Calderon
    4. Vic Darchinyan
    5. Celestino Caballero
    6. Fernando Montiel
    7. Nonito Donaire
    8. Juan Manuel Lopez
    9. Hozumi Hasegawa
    10. Christian Mijares

Next 5 probably include Solis, Sosa, Gonzalez, Narvaez and Moreno.

    This isn't a hypothetical H2H list. Otherwise I'd have Lopez much higher, probably #1. I honestly think he's a top 5 P4P H2H fighter right now.

I think you have Vic a bit high, but it is still a very good list (I think Montiel has longevity and skill-set over Vic, and in a head-2-head Montiel would take him at the weight; but as my avatar will testify I am a big Montiel fan - maybe I am being slightly biased).

I find it hard to believe Mijares went from top 5 in this sort of category (and perhaps top 10 P4P) to being dropped OUT of the top 10 based on one loss. That's a tad misguided.

Other than that, a great overall list IMO.

Man, Darchinyan is waaaaaaay to low, after Vazquez and Marquez, he's the only one to beat a P4P-er and he did it in style. JuanMa doesn't have the resume yet to be there, especially that high.

    Here's mine BTW: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57685

Perhaps an error on my part.

I'm not one for dropping guys after one defeat, but IMO it was a "walkover" by Vic (a guy fighting his second fight at the weight - or was it third (was Z Gorres at that weight as well, probably) - in any case Mijares was brutalised in that fight).

Mijares could possibly slip in at the bottom end of the top-ten (8-10 is quite fluid in my list).

    :huh

You don't even have Vic on your list.

A win over Mijares (or even coupled with Kirilov) doesn't vault him from obscurity to No.3 with me.
