Guys like Mickey Walker went to the body well as did many but I love to see a serious assault on the body and head, Joe Calzage was a decent example in recent times but he was plagued by hand troubles so he was selective. Joe Louis was one of the best at switching hard punches to the head and body This is Chakhkiev and his opponent Page has proven to be a troublesome and durable trial horse...I am impressed with his body and head attack Who else was a good good body and head fighter and thoughts on Chakhkiev's performance in this one http://leifpm.com/2012/05/18/chakhkiev-vs-page-r6/
TYSON. Right hook to the liver, right upper cut, left hook to the head. That was one of his trademark combos delivered with remarkable speed and precision. It was either Dundee or Fuch who called it possibly the fastest and most devastating combos They ever saw in the heavyweight division. Mickey ward hook to the head then body. Duran?
Duran's double tap of left/body-left/head then right hand was just so smooth:yep Also you'll see JCC had this as his modus operandi along with most latin fighters:smoke
When I think Body/Head I think Joe Frazier. On the inside whipping the left to the body then doubling it up to the head.. or vice versa.. you never knew where that left hand would land it was so fast and coming in so often and from so low...
Yes, Durans early fight Raking of Leonard to body and head Let ray know from the off that inside was a bad place to be with this mean hombre.
I do think the general lack of seeing it used goes back to Ali. He changed everything 35 years ago and flash started counting for lots of points and lots of rounds. Not the meat and potato workers, but flash started counting for so much more on scorecards and everyone started imitating. Ali went to the body so infrequently that his success changed the sport. Some of the older posters than myself that are more familiar with the 50's and 40's can shed some light on this.
