Kov can't fall in love with the straight right because it will not be there for him like it usually is. He's got to mix up his punch selection better and jab more. And Ward cannot win this fight throwing one punch at a time. He's got to stand his ground some and let off quick combos and get out.

Well I was right wasn't I? Kovalev outboxed the Master.

Everyone had Kovalev winning, The judges were seeing red white and blue throughout the fight.

    Yes, yes you were.

My own score was similar to Lederman's 116-111 Kovalev

Also, CST80, I thought your thoughts on the fight were spot on. Ward could not get Kovalev's rhythm and timing for most of the fight, just as you predicted. And this led to Ward eating more shots than he normally would.

    Good work by you!

I predicted the match correctly the first time, with the exception of the KO victory, the rematch will be far shorter and more decisive, Kovalev has finally felt the sting of US judges, and that made Krusher angry. #PrayforSOG

    nice one

so as everyone knows Krusher is trained by John David Jackson (aka "action jackson" during his fighting days). i remember JDJ from those days and his trademark was defense--quickly assess what your opponent is trying to do and interrupt it.

in execution i don't see much similarity between JDJ the fighter and Krusher (eg, JDJ relied a lot on head movement) but perhaps there's a common philosophy.

you were (implicitly) critical of JDJ (should have better prepared Krusher for Ward's tactics). Hard to disagree with this.

And yet, in a couple of interviews i've read, JDJ doesn't seem to think there was anything wrong with how he prepared Krusher. Changing trainers now seems like the worst thing to do, and if Krusher wanted to do it, December would have been a better time. But the relationship seems strange--eg, Virgil Hunter said that during the fight, JDJ didn't say anything to Krusher in between rounds, after the sixth round, which is odd (and Virgil hunter would have had a bird's eye view from which to observe this).

Do you think SK/JDJ make any personnel changes--sparring partners, specialist asst coaches, etc--for this camp?

(i assume inviting Artur Beterbiev to their camp is not an option, given he will fight the winner; what's more i think there's bad blood between the two going back to their days in the Russian amateur program.) :)

would love for you to apply your style of analysis ex post to the GGG - Jacobs fight.

    that's one outcome i still can't explain.

the decision was clearly correct but it's a complete mystery how it lasted 12 rounds.

You predicted the fight correctly except for Kovalev's ko victory? lol Spoken like a true Trump supporter. You were wrong, Ward won a unanimous decision. Some of the stuff I read on here is unreal.
