I like SRV, I used to listen to him a lot when I was younger, but he isn't the blues guitarist IMO. And if Kovalev is as good as I think he is then it will be Carlos Montoya against Andreas Segovia.

Look at the guys Kovalev's fought. I'm not saying they're not legit contenders, but they are all mostly basic outside boxers: Campillo, Cleverly, Sillakh, Pascal. None of them in any fight fought inside like Ward has, smothering the opponent's power and using angles. Kovalev has had way more opportunity to establish his pace and rhythm against previous opponents than he will against Ward.

Hopkins was a very good win, but come on beating Cloud, Murat, and Shumenov the way he did showed he wasn't the guy who beat Tarver. Point being that Ward's speed and reflexes aren't comparble to Hopkins. He has the athleticism to implement more than Hopkins could against Kovalev. Like the post above this, I'm pointing out that Kovalev hasn't fought anyone like Ward, as much as Ward hasn't fought anyone like Kovalev.

Yes, Ward did stick to boxing Barrera on the outside way more than he has in past fights. And didn't look too good when he brought the fight to him. If that means he'll avoid fighting Kovalev on the inside I think he's giving up his best chance. Inside boxing doesn't necessarily rely on strength, nor is it strictly standing in the pocket, and if Ward realises he needs to stick to an inside game he'll try to, as risky as it might be. The alternative is covering and waiting while Kovalev fires and fires. What kind of fight do you think Ward should fight to give himself his best chance?

By the way, I don't rate Ward's chin as highly as you do. He's managed to avoid getting hit solid in most of his biggest fights, but I think is hiding a vulnerable chin and likely responds no better than he did early his career when he was almost stopped if Kovalev hits him with just one solid shot.

:thumbsup I think the last two paragraphs will be very prophetic, and I'm not sure there's anything Ward can do to beat the Krusher in a definitive way. Because Ward risking getting on the inside could be suicide for him and I'm pretty sure he won't risk it. The best thing he can do is try to stay on the outside and do his best to avoid everything clean that Kovalev throws for 12 rounds, and I'm not sure that's possible.

WHAT!!!! Your not going to call me a demographic racist? LOL, You noticed that I didn't make a pick. There are some variables to consider. can Ward do work on the inside without being hit cleanly? If Ward does get on the inside can Kov make the adjustments to keep the distance he wants or can he fight well enough on the inside to compete with Ward? Will the size difference make a difference? Like I said before, Ward needs to fight a near flawless fight, no major mistakes. Kov can take the risks because I don't think Ward can land anyone punch that hurt Kov enough to put him down or stop him... Kov, on the other hand, can change the entire landscape of a fight with one single blow( I once knew a girl like that). This is like a mongoose and a cobra fight! Damn good stuff! It sucks for me because, I like both these guys! So I would like to see the greatest draw in the history of the sport! LOL:good

they are actually very similar in dimensions, but kovalev has a 1 1/2" reach advantage. i think kovalev is the bigger guy, though. ward needs a higher muscle %age in order to be as big as a naturally lean, big boned kovalev. if you look at pics from their last fight, you can see how ward looks jacked compared to kovalev. kovalev has no extra muscle or water weight that would interfere with his power and his reflexes.

Uh... yes it can. A lean, natural and born light heavy will hit harder at 175 than a bulked up smaller fighter who got that way trying to add muscle mass and artificially jack up their frame.

Kovalev is a sleek, natural 175 pounder.

After you listen to that, put on Carlos Montoya, the famous flamenco guitarist. Then you will hear what a truly great guitarist is all about! Against other blues guitarist, SRV was a force to be reckoned with but, up against Carlos, he will need to sit down and take notes. So the question remains, is Kovalev a Stevie ray Vaughan or a Carlos Montoya? Hopefully we get Carlos Montoya against Andreas Segovia.

This Alexander Brand fight is a bad look for Ward. There's several top 15 to top 25 ranked LHWs he could have fought. Instead he picks an inactive 168 fighter.

First of all, there is no size difference. Ward was a huge SMW. Now he is finally facing people of his own size (Smith and Brand don't count).

Second: he can definitely drop Kovalev catching him off balance like some others did. I doubt he can hurt Kova though.
