To doubt someone's potential is to give them 0% chance. I give Tua far greater than 0% chance in all matches discussed, whether I said the opponent can "maybe" spring an upset or not. I give him a lower percentage chance against those opponents than some of the more hopeless opponents, but still a large percentage chance - still higher than 0%. For me to "doubt his potential" I would have to give him 0% chance. Clearly I don't doubt his potential as I give him far greater than 0% chance; in fact I have him as the favorite against even the three best also-rans to the Klits in the division. Isn't this obvious?

Correct. You could make an absolute negation of Tua at 70% of his abilities being able to beat the field of non-Ukrainian heavyweights. I would disagree. Clearly, this is consistent with your opinion. Good for you.

I'm saying he can, and I'm saying that to say "he can't" is inaccurate. I can juggle four apples for twenty seconds. Maybe in practice some of the time I'll successfully juggle four apples for twenty seconds, and sometimes I'll drop them and fail. The conclusion? I still can juggle four apples for twenty seconds. It's not an absolute given that I will, but I certainly can.

"He can't" isn't even involved in this conversation. By saying "he can" I am discluding the possibility that "he can't". I'm not guaranteeing that he will. I'm saying that I give him more than no chance - in fact, quite a bit more, as I favor him. That is what is meant by "he can beat" a given list of fighters.

No, you can't. See? That's a direct absolute negation. If you were to make such a direct absolute negation of Tua's chances against top contenders if he comes in at 70%, I would disagree with you and say "Well I think he can". For me to have no doubts that he absolutely would is a horse of a completely different color.

I would if I was. This quest to prove a contradiction has failed. There was never a contradiction, you simply mistook (or intentionally distorted) the intended and ostensibly quite clear meaning of my words.

You said that a 70% Tua could beat everyone except the Klitschkos. After that you named other opponents who you weren't sure that he could beat. That means you had doubt in his potential to do it. That means you have doubts that at 70% of his ability he can beat these people. You contradicted yourself. You just said it again with this post. You said before he can do so (definite statement), now you're saying MAYBE he can do so. So you think thought that at 70% of his ability Tua might fail to do so. Maybe he couldn't.

He can unless he can't do so. It's a meaningless statement. If Tua doesn't do it at 70%, is there something else besides his ability that keeps him from doing it ?

He can do it unless he can't do it. If he's at 70% and doesn't do it, either he really couldn't do it or you made a meaningless statement. What don't you get about this ?

Manny Pacquaio can beat Muhammad Ali because maybe if Pacquaio fought Muhammad Ali 1,000,000 times he could beat him 1 time. Were you trying to say something like that ?
