Some intangibles go into this one. Pacquiao is a more complete fighter today than he was when fought JMM a second time. He is a more explosive than when he was at the lower weights. He is a more experienced fighter at the top level than Floyd is, arguably has a better resume. Although Floyd annihilate JMM, a fighter Pacquiao struggled with at a lower weight class, the same can be said about Floyd struggling against DLH while Pacquiao annihilated and shut out DLH and Ricky Hatton (who Floyd also struggled some what). Arguments and excuses can be said from both sides as to why each fighter has struggled against a certain fighter; whether it be that they were draining to fight at a certain weight (Pac to get down to 130), that their opponent was drained or bloated to meet them there (JMM vs Floyd DLH vs Pacquiao), or that there were simply size issues that had an effect in the fight (JMM vs Floyd, DLH vs Floyd). Also, for arguments of "Pacquiao has never fought a guy a slick as Mayweather and talented", the same thing can be said in the other direction; Floyd has never faced anyone with the type of athleticism, work rate, and offensive artillery of Pacquiao, which is a strange combination of speed, acrobatic footwork and movement, and power.

Do we still have Pac haters saying that the key to beating Pacman is a good left jab? He has developed his right hand since the JMM fights. The Cotto beating proves that its time for a new gameplan.

The problem with Floyd "fans" is they think he's never been in a close fight and doesn't lose rounds. When the truth is quite the opposite, When he has faced quality guys he loses rounds and really gets in tight situations. Look at his last two fights before retirement he scraped past Hoya, and yes alot of people feel that way. Hatton was able to rough Floyd up in the early going and was giving him all he can handle. The shorter reach thing was out the window cause Hatton, a very good fighter in his own right was able to cut off the ring and get inside. Fellas there's a reason Floyd has avoided aggressive fighters with power, who can cut off the ring. Tough fight for Pacman but I think at this point the odds go to Pac. Before this fight I'd give the edge to Floyd, but after seeing Pac take Cotto's best shots that changes. Pac has fought guys with similar speed and movement in the lower ranks and can catch them. Floyd has never faced a guy with the speed, power and composure of Pacman.

 

I agree. Between the style, reach and footspeed, Manny will have difficulty catching Mayweather all night, while Mayweather will still be able to potshot him. I don't see Manny beating Floyd, and that's taking nothing away from Manny.

 

Bull****. Floyd was not winning the fight with Oscar by a huge margin, but basically potshotted his way to an extremely conservative low margin points win. He resorted to just spoiling for so many rounds, similar to what he did with Hatton, and yes, I gave those rounds to Oscar on activity. Just smiling and weaseling your back through the ropes behind the cornerpost doesn't win you a round on "defensive excellence". No aggression = no round.

But yes, Manny being so much shorter would make it difficult to connect on Floyd without risking too much. But the point is, it would be a hard fight for Mayweather where he needs to concentrate, and he doesn't like hard fights anymore.

 

castillo beat floyd, judahs southpaw stance gave him problems and oscar almost won. pac is better than all those fighters so i dont see why he cant.

It doesn't. But I've heard alot of people bringing up the Marquez fight as proof of what Floyd does to Pac. The biggest problem for Floyd is his defense is overrated. When attacked he goes into a shell, He's very hittable against someone with fast hands and feet. He has NEVER faced anyone with as good all around offense as Pac.

This is a typical case of "they have to fight to say what would happen". It's not "who would win, Abraham or Rubio ?", asked anywhere but Youngstown.

 

Hatton didnt accomplish anything...if you go back and look at the fight he didnt even land punches to the head. Floyd wasnt busted up? He took a few round to see what Hatton had then he went into attack mode and got Hatton out of there. The way you make it sound is if Hatton literally had moment where he controled the fight or he had Floyd in danger...

That never happened...

 

You dont think Floyd has improved...seems like he gets hit less and less each fight...Look at Floyd 5 years ago and look at him now...
