I never really thought much of Spoon, he was an underachiever and most of his big wins were close SD's...he never pushed himself..he had that win over a green Bruno but so did the other Bone-crusher Smith who I also thought never had the will to push through tough circumstances....M.Spinks would be interesting vs Haye but Haye may be a bit heavy handed for him

Wlad would be an awfully difficult matchup for Ali IMHO. I think guys like Frazier, Tyson, and Lewis would spell absolute doom for Wlad.

Wlad would pose problems for Ali, it won´t be an easy fight, at least in the beginning but I think Wlad can´t tough it out when he has to. Ali can. And it would get there in a fight with Ali.

A bit overstated but overall it´s exavtly how I see it. :thumbsup

Quarry doesn´t belong there. The rest would beat Haye, some would simply walk through him.

Yeah but look at the ages of Valuev and Ruiz. Both were at the tail end of their careers and didn´t have a fight since.

When had Wlad to be very good at not presenting them? None ever tried to use angles with him. All rushed in head first.

And the constantly alert thing would make him tense up, together with Ali never letting him settle down, never rest and much more movement than he is used too he would tire out.

Haye beating Patterson? Patterson beeing too small? Patterson overcame a few better fighters. None with Haye´s speed and power, yeah, but with much better defences and chin. Patterson had a lot more heart and Haye isn´t a very good finisher. He may hurt and knock Patterson down but he will comeback and knock the Englichman out.

God, Floyd is soo underrated on here.

Patterson fought more hws than Haye did, even by today´s standards. Much more proven.

Yeah, Quarry is rated far too high here.

Yeah, he´s one of the best Wlad has beat so far. Byrd, Chagaev, Ibragimov and Chambers would be the other 4 I think. Maybe Povetkin if they fight.

So, I´m an Ali fan now despite showing my dislike for him more than once.

No comparing Wlad and Terrell is not ridivulous. Wlad´s better no doubt but like Wlad Terrell was tall and had a good jab, so using that fight as an example of how Ali dealt with a tall guy with a good jab and drawing conclusions makes sense.

But there's no point in debating with Ali haters.

Wlad is hard to beat. There was a thread recently about Wlad versus the Top20 hws. I had him coming out with a positive record. That´s big. I think he´d beat Holy but yeah he would lose to Tyson and Lewis. Ali might struggle but would prevail in the end, the reasons I presented before in this thread.

Yes, Klitschko does pose problems for most fighters. That's because he's borderline great himself, but that, due more to size than anything else. I've found him to be an extremely interesting study, if slightly tedious at times.

How, I often wonder, would he fare against a Frazier, for example, who holds a significant styles edge over him, but is otherwise hindered by an equally significant, perhaps impossible, size disadvantage? His is the kind of jab that Frazier usually slips, but Wlad can be a good matador when he is moved, and is not limited to the jab alone. If it goes late, the battle is lost for him. But hurting Joe early shouldn't be a tough task. Probable, though stopping him would be unlikely.

If Wlad had showed a really effective uppercut, I'd pick him without hesitation. But Joe would probably come in under his straight shots without too much problem. The question then is how well Wlad could nullify him on the inside with his size alone.

I love Ali, and I hate to admit this, but I think Wlad could well have turned out to be a bit of a nightmare for him, just because of a combination of the size and more crucially the style of the two fighters. I think it would be a really **** fight to be honest, and I just give a 67 Ali the edge because I think he could outpoint him with his blistering handspeed and footwork, but I dont think he would look good at all doing it and would struggle at times.

I was reading the recent Quarry book and found a very interesting passage about Frazier before the first Quarry fight .. in interviews Joe referred to both Ali and Quarry as blow up light heavyweights . He said both had to move up to become heavyweights while he had to train down to be 205 or so .. he , in his opinion, was a naturally bigger man ..

Probably a mistake on Frazier's part with Ali due to Ali having won the LHW Olympic Gold Medal, I think.

Frazier was a heavyweight at age 16.
Ali legitimately grew into the heavyweight division around the ages of 19 or 20.
It should be noted that when he fought Liston, he was still growing, and in today's money he was only just three or four fights out of the "cruiser" range.

Actually Muhammad grew into a natural heavyweight, without any weight training or suchlike.

There has not been a sub 210 pound champion at heavyweight in how many years?

Holyfield, Moorer, Hide, Haye are all naturally sub 210 pound. Them bulking up just shows a trend towards muscle (or fat) because of some imaginary advantage but doesn´t mean they are naturally bigger than, for example Archie Moore or Michael Spinks.
