Marquez was a great fighter in his own right. He did his thing extremely well, within his established envelope. His style and fighting temperament meshed with Pacquiao's, bringing us to say the least, such titanic battles.

Pacquiao on the other hand, had a much broader envelope. While Marquez would have always presented a difficult and competitive matchup to him, he had so much more attributes to achieve far beyond what Marquez could ever do. And that's not a diss on JMM.

 

Pacquiao avoided random testing for years, when it mattered most.
