Well said dude, I find it insulting to Donaire to call him a ducker when the opponent has 9 ****ing fights.
i understand,Rigo is right now packing his way to Panama to discuss his next fight with WBA president Mendoza, i personally believe he should drop his attempt to fight Nonito and keep himself busy but would be sad to see him against lower competition.I don't know dude, maybe we cubans look at things a different way, we are not that concern about being undefeated as much as fighting good fights and believe Donaire is the best fighter south of 126 lbs.I don't see why Rigo-as a legit champ-has to go all the way to russia to fight that dude. With so many names around-forget donaire, who keeps bringing rigo's name on-can he fight somebody else? he fought only once last year and it wasn't his fault, Ramos avoided him as much as he could. as a boxing fan, is it fair for the sport?
Because lots of promising fighters don't get a shot immediately, they have to work for it hard. Look at Golovkin and Pirog, those guys are champions as well and very promising ones at that yet they can't get a fight even with a top 10 opponent and they both have fought over 20 times, that's when I see bull****, this guy fought 9 times and is already chasing the biggest name in the lower divisions, all he has to do is just keep fighting and winning impressively and he will get a shot at Donaire for sure.
Its unfortunate but I'm sure Rigo would disagree with you regarding having to go to Russia as opposed to fighting here IF the purses are right. If he could make $100K in Russia as opposed to $10K here, I'm sure he'd be booking his tickets because he's already fought all over the world as a top flight amateur. And frankly, who's going to watch a Cuban fight a Russian here if the Cuban's name isn't Gamboa besides you and me?
But Rigo doesn't live in Russia or ukraine and his promoter, its the same who promotes the biggest names in the sport. Its a bad way to measure the sport we love when people as good and promising as Pirog, Golovkin are being ignored. As a fan i'd rather 100 times to see Pirog vs Martinez(a russian vs an argentinian)than watching Despaigne( cuban) against anybody else. Look at Lara, nobody available at 154( one of the hottest division as we speak)and is going against a much larger man above his natural weight.( Ron Hearns)and Gamboa chasing Rios at 135 because nobody at 126-130. Hope just Rigo stays fighting, hope fans would appreciate what he brings for the sport before he is a senior citizen.
Yea, Cubans have it really tough in the pros it seems, and Rigondeaux still has time although not much, if he has say 2 prime years left then it should be plenty to make some noise, although not enough for HoF, ATG.
Excellent final point, and I hope you're right. But I just don't get the hate for Rigo having 9 fights. He could have had a few more I admit but he only defected in what? 09? I know it's only natural for people to feel he has to wait awhile, but he has made the most of the few years he's been a pro if you think about it.All that with fair periods of inactivity.I'd say he's done OK.
No one wants to fight rigo so he's gonna have to take fights like this if he wants to turn heads and legitimize fights vs the likes of Donaire/Arce/Nishioka. I think he's already on that level and able to compete with the divisions best but he's gotta build the name/following.
Then, when Rigo gets to defend a title against a nobody you will hear ppl saying...wtf! Why is fighting this bum!
His team has already mentioned they are willing to fight him if they cant get a better fight. They are not ducking no one, unlike the rest of that division.
