Let us analyze this claim that Margarito has an unfair size advantage. Margarito is not a real WW???!!?? So Margarito weighs in between 154-160 fight night on an average. Yes, he's tall, and lanky. He cuts weight too. Now I ask the haters: 1. What elite fighter has never cut several pounds to make weight? 2. What top fighter in WW division weighs less than 150 fight night? 3. How much weight does Williams, Berto, Cotto, Cintron and Clottey pack on after the weigh in? 4. What determines size? 5. If height determines size, why was Tyson a HW and Corrales a lightweight? 6. Unlike other fighters, why doesn't Margarito have problem making weight? 7. If he is that big, why isn't he ever weight drained? 8. Why doesn't he suffer the problems that come with weight draining drastically? i.e. Miguel Cotto (stamina, chin) 9. What Top WW (do you who say Margarito has an UNFAIR size advantage) see as a legit WWs? 10. Why isn't Margarito measured with the same rules the other WW are, and infact the other boxers in general are? on a side note: Of Margarito's last 15 fights, 10 he has weighed in less than his opponent or under the WW limit.:deal
He's no bigger than SRR or Trinidad. So people hacking on him for not being a welterweight needs to shut their ****ing traps.
Yeah, like all of a sudden Margarito is the first fighter to cut weight to put himself into an advantageous position. Please... Besides, my understanding is that he takes good care of himself between bouts (post-Cotto notwithstanding), which helps him when it comes time to make weight. He knows that part of his job is to keep himself in shape between fights, and if more fighters had that mentality (Castillo and Corrales come to mind immediately) they might have been a bit more sucessful when it came time to step on the scale.
Clottey is the one. He cuts massive weight and comes in heavy as hell. I may have to check my self on this one, but I "believe" it was his fight with Chico that Clottey came into the ring at 171 ****in' pounds for a WW fight!!
we must have been typing at the same time! You're post wasn't there yet when I was throwin mine down. But we see eye to eye on this one my man.:good
This just illustrates the problem of having the weigh-in the day before the fight. If these guys have such a problem with these fighters making weight and coming in 10-15 lbs heavier, then start writing letters to commissions and advocating for day-of weigh-ins. Bottom line--can the fighter make the weight? If so, then they can fight at that weight. Day-of weigh-ins would cut down on fighters drastically cutting weight to fight in unnaturally small weight classes, but until that happens (ha!) then it is what it is: if the fighter can make the weight, they can fight in that division.
Im so glad you made this thread because there are far too many can heads on this site who keep on bringing up this weight issue. All fighters go up in weight on fight night. If he could not make weight then he would not be cleared to fight. I mean he comes in weighing less than Mosley at the weigh in so if he does not belong in the Welterweight division then I would of imagined that he would of been weight drained by now. He has no advantage its just an excuse that Margo Haters and Floyd Supporters use to suit their need to discredit Margarito. Some of the culprits that we are likely to see canning and trolling on this issue is: PIMPC,EZE,SCAR,ORION, and any others that like to discredit Margarito.
