Look at this video at 1:50 seconds. Marquez is clearly stunned and is in fact just probing his two hands outward to try to block what was an increasingly fierce attack by Vasquez.

No doubt in my mind this was a great stoppage. I can see where some are coming from, if I was drunk in my house on a saturday night I would have been upset, but looking at this fight finally now Im sure it was the right move.

At first I thought the stoppage was a bit fast but now I think it was the perfect time to end it, Marquez was in trouble and he would have been severely damaged had the fight gone any further.

Yap!!! I'm so glad the ref stopped that fight, so we can get a 3rd!!!!!

Pure heart in display by Marquez, but maybe he should've taken a knee.

Aside from a miracle turn around, Marquez looked pretty finished with the assault that was getting laid on him. Vasquez was picking up steam and coming strong.

Plus, there was over a minute left in that round.

It wasn't like Marquez was making him miss after he had gotten back up. He was trading with Vasquez, and took some devastating shots.

That is another point that I was going to mention, but forgot when I wrote the post. There was still a lot of time for him to get brutalized. Thanks for reminding me.

I think maybe he could have given him a few more seconds to see if he could have collected himself. But in all honesty, that would have been prolonging the inevitable.

After the last right hand from Vazquez, if you look at Raph, his eyes are glazed over. He was done. All that was keeping him upright was his heart.

Great stoppage....and I cant wait for the third one.

Not a bad stoppage by any means. I recolect quartey being in worst shape against de la hoya years ago. oscar must of hit him with over 30 un answered shots. here is a link:

Definitely a good stoppage to me, although a few more seconds would have been OK, too, considering the importance of the fight. Still, when he see a guy's face go slack and his mouth drop open with glazed eyes, no one can complain about the ref jumping in.

And he has a much closer look at how the fighter's body is responding than we do.

Did Rafa's team throw in the towel just after it was stopped by the referee?

It was a good, right stoppage. Even Marquez didn't complain.

So, who are we to complain...:yep
