If they'd have had all the ways to milk the dollars they have now, Louis-Schmeling II would make Pac-Mayweather look like chump change.

With all the social significance? Yes, I agree. Good call. Bigger than Cooney/Holmes also, for sure.

Agreed, that was back when boxing meant something. you cannot turn back the clock . . . this is the bout that could vault boxing back to the mainstream and build a buzz again.

Not only was it the Golden Age of boxing, J, but Louis-Schmeling II transcended sport. Doubt if we'll ever see it's like again.

The first one was so onesided, there is no need for a rematch. Schmeling should go straight for a title shot.

It was one-sided, you're right, b, but because it was such a big upset, the public clamored for a re-match to find out if it was fluke; Louis was such a beast.

Not to mention, it had become more than a fight. The hype was: A black American against and Aryian Superman.

Great pick, e. I was at the fight in the new Madison Square Garden. From the pre-fight excitement in the Arena, the revenue now would be in the stratosphere.

The people really thought it was a fluke then? Hm, that´s something I can´t understand. It was too good executed and Schmeling was too good of a fighter. I know that Louis was a thought very, very highly of but that high that a loss to the second best hw of the decade is called a fluke. Wow. And that´s even before he started his great reign.

Americans WANTED TO BELIEVE IT WAS A FLUKE, b. With the world on the brink of WWII, there was much more at stake than a boxing match. It was about symbolically beating Hitler.

Just like Mayweather/DLH was supposed to? Nah, I bet this would be similar. Not really a great fight, just the two biggest names. I don't think the chemistry will make a great fight. If it happens, I hope I'm wrong though.

When it's all said and done, DLH/PBF might end up being the highest grossing PPV fight of all time!

not only the two biggest names but the two best fighters in boxing by far. i think this is far more then hype . . . the fight could be a big let down as well . . . but it could capture the imagination of the general public and draw much needed attention before the fight even happens. The SSM v PBF had some of my friends who like MMA now jacked up and watching again.
