Matchroom is establishing a good hierarchy of Body guards in the heavyweight division to make sure at each level the fighters dont take any risks unless that risk is taken to prevent a greater risk to another fighter higher up in the hierarchy Examples: Dave Allen is Chisoras body guard (Chisora wouldnt fight Joe Joyce, Matchroom offered Dave Allen instead) Chisora is Dillian Whytes body guard (Whyte is ducking Ortiz, Matchroom trying to make Ortiz - Chisora instead) Whyte is AJs body guard (Wilder can fight AJ if he fights Whyte first) AJ and McCracken are at the top, protected by three layers of expendable british level sluggers to prevent any sort of live threat stepping in the ring with him
LOL it's true and it's actually very smart. Matchroom want no part of Joyce who would easily beat Allen and Chisora. Imo Joyce would already beat Whyte by late stoppage in a competitive fight.
There's nothing new under the sun... https://www.si.com/vault/1968/10/28/550942/if-you-beat-the-policeman-you-get-ellis
That's an excellent piece, well written and as you say, just shows the more things change the more they stay the same. Just looked him up on Boxrex and he beat Cleveland Williams in his next fight.
Yeah, Jones was a southpaw heavyweight, and there was literally no such thing back then. Ali had 61 fights, exactly TWO against southpaws. Joe Louis ducked one guy as champ and he was a southpaw, maybe 5'9 180.
