ron lyle is a borderline tomato can but he would destroy max using his size and sheer power max would not be able to handle the bombs that ron would be throwing and catching max at will ron wins via kayo early:yep

Schmeling would pick Lyle apart. Lyle was so open and there to be hit and Max was such an excellent counterpuncher and intelligent fighter. Would be cruel to watch. Schmeling TKO9 Lyle.

  4. Lyle and by brutal ko, lyle took shots from shavers and foreman, they were harder punchers than schmeling by 45 miles. And schmeling was not ali or a very fast counterpuncher like quarry ,lyle by brutal ko.

  5. Maybe you would go 24 seconds in a fight with this tomato can :deal

saying he is a tomato can is getting rid of all of your credibility as a historian as you like to mention

    This is my pick.

Lyle probably has a punchers chance though.

As for the matchup schmelling wins a late KO eventually counterpunching a tired Lyle for the stoppage.

The right hand would find it's mark, as lyle was open for that punch, like Ali found out. Lyle may have his moments early on though, he was such a gladiator, he would almost certainly give schmelling a good fight

Accuracy goes a long way in making up for that, and Max had that in spades and he had decent handspeed as well actually. I don`t even see how handspeed is a factor in this matchup given how the opponent is Ron Lyle, a fighter hardly known for his speed or defensive prowess.

Lyle had tremendous heart and will, but his chin wasn`t made of stone and believe me Schmelling had more than enough power to get his respect. Shavers would have KOed Lyle in the 2nd round had the bell not rung to save him, and against Foreman he took some monster shots indeed but he did get stopped though didnt he?

If you think Ron is gonna just waltz into that ring and blitz Max right outta there within a couple of rounds your sadly mistaken, his counter right cross is one of most accurate and deadly punches I have seen in any weight division and with Lyle`s porous defence it would be suicide for him to attack a clever and deadly accurate counter-puncher like Max Schmelling head-on.

Once Big Ol` Ron Lyle gets his bell rung by one of them right hands square on the chin and starts seeing them tweety birds swirling around his skull he will think twice before trying that again. And my guess is that he becomes reluctant to fully open up once he realizes Max can and will punish him if he gets careless, and the fight will turn into a chessmatch of sorts at that point en route to a decision win for Max due to the more telling and accurate punches being scored.

Of course Ron`s stamina late in fights has been iffy at times as well, whereas that was never the case with heir Max who was always in spartan condition and whos stamina wasn`t an issue. Max while durable and the better boxer is susceptible to a knockout of course as Lyle has enough power to knock him out, but I doubt a focused Schmelling would get caught by one of those wild, clubbing swings from Lyle when in attack mode, and would likely counter the snot out of him instead possibly stopping him late.

Either way, Max wins this 9/10.

Ron Lyle was just a journeyman contender.
Schmeling was actually a decent champion. I think he'd be a bit too good for Lyle.

Agreed. Ron would eat those right hand counters until he couldn't get back up. Lyle would have to blow Max out of there early to win it.

  13. max wins 9/10 not, YOU THINK THAT HE WOULD DO, GREAT DIFFERENCE. I THINK THAT LYLE WAS MUCH STRONGER, HE HAD A VERY GOOD CHIN, DECENT SKILL, HE WAS HARDER PUNCHER FOR SURE, AND HE WAS A WARRIOR, SCHMELING DID NOT HAVE THE POWER TO FINISH LYLE(MAX MIGHT PUT LYLE DOWN BUT PROBABLY HE WOULD NOT FINISH HIM).LYLE HAD THE POWER TO FINISH MAX. IS RIDICULOUS THE WAY HOW LYLE IS UNDERRATED. SCHMELING IS OVERRATED LIKE THE HELL, ONLY BECAUSE HE DID HURT LOUIS WITH A LUCKY SHOT THEN LOUIS WAS HURT AND FINISHED, LOUIS DESTROYED MAX THE REMATCH. IF SCHMELING DID NOT HAVE THIS LUCKY VICTORY AGAINST LOUIS, HE WOULD BE NOTHING IN THE HISTORY, SIMPLE.

Shavers had him almost out for the count with a left hook... punched him around for rounds with everything, but he couldn't do it. I think schmelling would get the job as an accurate and more scientific technician... and his countering abilities clearly trump shavers'. I would say Schmelling would have a very hard time with the fight though, just based on that preformance.
