Who is not admitting Floyd is good?
There is a difference between being good and proving you're good.
Let's just throw Floyd into a motion capture suit and calculate how fast and accurate he is and call that good enough. Why even fight at all?

The point of it is that every boxer in the top P4P of all time had to fight boxers who posed risks and they overcame the odds or the challenge and still won or tried their hearts out. This is all the same as when Roy Jones was fighting a bunch of bums in the Light Heavyweight division to keep his record in tact and to showcase his skills. Yeah, they are both amazing boxers, we get it. Time to fight.

the OP is not criticising pbf skills or fighting style.

its his resume. can't you comprehend the stuff he was saying and just automatically shut down your brain and transform to defend-pbf-mode?:rofl:D

Floyd is good for the sport....the early estimations of the ppv numbers tell the story.....and if you can't appreciate pure boxing....then why call yourself a fan.....

guys like mayweather, paulie, and calderon catch so much **** because they aren't KO artists.....very narrow-minded "fans"....

The real Mayweather effect is when a fighter makes it to the top, everybody who wants a big payday can call him out. Everybody wants to fight Floyd, but realize that once they get in the ring with him, that he is actually as good as his record shows. He can't fight everybody. He takes the fights that will make him the most money. In his position, you would too!!

I disagree, I think Cotto would have made him more money !!! He takes the easy road plain and simple.

Which is absolutely fine if that is what you're projecting. But he is projecting that he is the best boxer alive right now while not providing the evidence. The saddest part of all of this is that he could probably beat Mosley, but he won't even risk it. If he wants to scam a billion dollars from boxing fans, then he should come out and say it. Drop the greatest ever talk immediately.

I think the problem here is that you and Floyd have two very different objectives. Floyd's objective is to get paid. Your objective for Floyd is to have him fight all the fighters you think can possibly contest his greatness to secure his legacy regardless of how financially viable that may be. Floyd is absolutely not willing to reconcile the two . . . and, after all, why should he? He's the one takin' the punches in the ring and if he's gonna do so he's doing it for top dollar. Can you blame him? What good is "proving" you're the greatest when you literally won't even be able to say it by the time you hit 50? What good is it to tar and feather every chump in the building only to die destitute like Joe Louis or Sugar Ray Robinson? Legacy doesn't pay your bills. But wise decisions do. Legacy doesn't maintain your health. But wise decisions do. Mayweather's a businessman first, boxer second, as any good fighter should be, because there's been way too many horror stories reported by guys who did it the other way around. So Mayweather's all business, and very astute at it, too.

Some of these fights you think Mayweather is not interested in taking are fights that I'm fairly certain he is interested in taking but is waiting for their earning potential to mature to their zeniths, a la Sugar Ray Leonard, before he signs on the dotted line. People seem to heap their expectations upon Floyd because he's such a tremendous talent but they also must bear in mind that it's possible that he never sought to fulfill YOUR expectations in the first place. So while you may view his career as disappointing or frustrating, he may view it as intelligent and focused. And who's really to judge? And since he's actually doing what he wishes to do, any disappointment or frustration with Floyd's decisions can be attributed to a deficiency on your part as opposed to his.

He is good for the sport and for attention for it, no one is disputing any of this. He is just not doing anything to help build his case.
The real reason he is good for the sport is the large amounts of media attention, which stems from his interviews and press conferences and insistence on being in the lime light.
I think this thread is lost on people who are so eager to defend Mayweather that they aren't even considering the real subject.
Is this really that hard of a topic to grasp?

Floyd just needs to beat the guys he should've been fighting the last few years campaigning as a Welter. He should fight Pac, but he also needs Cotto, Mosley, and probably Paul Williams to cement himself as a top 10 ATG imo. I personally will hold it against him that he didn't fight Margarito, he probably wouldn't have come back if Mosley hadn't have beaten Margo, but I don't think it will hurt him in the eyes of most now.

It's quite clear you have no idea what the point of this is. He isn't saying he won't fight Shane Mosley because Shane Mosley isn't at the earning potential he will be later. He said "Shane Mosley has 5 losses" trying to discredit him and remove attention from the potential risk. Floyd would love to have people think he stands a chance of losing vs Hatton or Marquez and that those guys are true threats. That is not the legacy of an all time pound for pound great, that is the legacy of a con artist. I am fairly certain history will show what I am talking about. You have a man who could potentially end up top 5 P4P of all time wasting the opportunity. I wouldn't be harping on this so much if Floyd would admit that is what he is doing instead of trying to manipulate every interview he does to make him seem like a legit era dominating champion. I don't like this type of thing in boxing, I'm going to complain. It's easier to rob a bank for a million dollars than to work for 30 years and earn it. I have a lot more respect for the guy who earned it.

Floyd dosen't get any credit. I can see him beating Mosley and getting crucified for cherrypicking a 38 year old, beating Pac and getting crucified for beating a guy too small, or beating Cotto and getting crucified for cherrypicking a shop-worn fighter. No matter who he fights, he'll get no credit, unless he fights the winner of the super-six tournament........nope, then if he wins, then he won't get credit because the tournament took too much out of his opponent and he was easy-pickens!

He doesn't get credit? He was no.1 on the P4P list for years.
He was promoted by HBO on the strength of his previous performances. People make money when he fights, he got respect. No one is taking credit from his skills, they are taking credit from him for consistently picking fights no one wanted to see and knew he would win. Check the odds for all his recent fights.

First off, Shane Mosley doesn't have any earning potential. Shane Mosley only resonates with boxing fans. He does not have any large group of people behind him . . . unlike the two other fighters you named in your post who have countries behind them. Now a clash with Hatton or Marquez has very good earning potential, Mosley . . . not so much. If you would have read my post and actually understood it I wouldn't have to lead you by the hand to this conclusion. And, by the way, Mosley does have 5 losses (all 5 of them legit, too, and some would argue a 6th) and Floyd would whoop his ass so it's not as if he's actually lying when he says this.

And you should know that any time you step in the ring with any opponent, especially a world champion, you stand a chance of losing. But, lets's be honest, when does Floyd ever go into a fight not saying that he's gonna whoop the guys ass? You're over here saying that Mayweather wants you to believe that "he stands a chance of losing vs Hatton or Marquez." How do you figure? He says the exact opposite. He steadfastly claims that he will whoop the guy's ass . . . and he does so. ****, you even had Team Mayweather calling Ricky Hatton a club fighter before the fight so I don't understand how you can conjure up the notion that he wants you to believe "he stands a chance of losing." That's a figment of your imagination. So if anybody conned you it was yourself. Once again that's a deficiency on your part, not Mayweather's. Every interview I see him in he says he's going after fights that make money. Flat out, point blank. Money Mayweather. The only person not seeing this is you. And Floyd's not robbing any banks . . . figuratively, literally, theoretically, metaphorically or any other way you wished to mean it. He's earning a living and a pretty damned good one and he's doing it the American way. Pardon him if he allows his intelligence to overshadow his bravado while he's doing it.

P.S. Don't think the little spat with Shane Mosley at the end of the Marquez fight wasn't orchestrated. PBF is a whole lot smarter than you give him credit for. That was one of the most popular things about that fight. Mayweather was cultivating some earning potential for a fight w/ Mosley so it could change from Mayweather vs Mosley - moderately interesting - to Mayweather vs Mosley: the grudge match - a tad bit more interesting. That should be simmered to a boil right after the Pac vs Cotto fight. Gives the man some financially viable options.
