Battling Nelson in September 1910 claimed Young Corbett was the hardest hitter he ever faced.

So perhaps it was McGovern's fate to lose to Young Corbett. A mini Foreman-Frazier; McGovern aggression would forever doom him against Corbett, but that was the only way he could fight.

Young Corbett was clearly a great fighter himself. Agreed it's a short prime for McGovern, like Tyson I guess but, of you give him the win over Gans, some sick L4P achievements and quality wins (Dixon and Gans both make the top 40-50 of any respectable list, Gans should be top ten on everyone's and no lower than 19, Dixon makes higher on than 49 on most lists I see.

I tend to think the totally unrelated Young Corbett III was the greater of the YCs.

    I agree flea that YC3 > YC2

I also think that YC2 just had McGoverns' number and whilst we call it a short prime, 98-03 is 5 years and that's not too short a prime imo. Sure he never recovered from those beatings but he was a BW and FW champion and very dominant in his victories.
