Hell look at Lawrence Taylor. Dude was a notorious coke head during his Giants days. He gets a free pass. Look at him now. Barely any follow up to his HUGE legal problems.

You have to be pretty incredibly ignorant to say this. Ali was loved by the media, Cosell, Bud Collins, Plimpton, Sugar, Dick Young, Jerry Izenberg, Dick Cavett, Mike Douglas, all those big guys back inthe 60 and 70s. And the fans loved him too, hence the crowds who cheered him all over America, Europe and Zaire. He was and is as beloved by any sports figure ever. Sure there were a few oddball haters of Ali but they were inconsequential. Almost everyone loves Ali, even despite the inhumane cruelty he mistreated Frazier with.

Nothing ignorant about it. The man was hated here in America by the media he was put on because he was a good soundbite nothing more nothing less and was crucified for his stance on the war and his cocky style. You can tell that bull**** to someone who doesn't know better. Revisionist history at best. Ali was treated like **** in America boooed and it was far more of the outside oddballs as you refer to them as than you care to mention. It wasn't until after Ali retired was he adorned by most Americans. He was loved more outisde of his country than inside except for blacks who loved him while he was fighting.

 

He was crucified in 60's by many for his stand on the war. By the time the American publics opinion changed against the war (in the very early 70's), Ali became a hero for his stand. Against Frazier, against Foreman, everybody, white yanks, black yanks and the American media were 100% behind Ali. I'm not even American and I seem to know your countrys history better than you do.
