Yep this and Tyson under prepared for Douglas expecting the overweight lazy version of Douglas not the inspired one and Wilder already knew going into the rematch Fury would not be an easy fight so was much better prepared than Tyson was vs Douglas.
Wilder's mental state is up for speculation. But that video he released doesn't make me think he's that effected, he was cringe worthy, fake and deluded before and he doesn't seem any different now. Fury's mind games in the build up may very well unravel him, but then maybe not, deluded people are not rational people, Wilder could probably lose his right arm in an accident and still think he has a chance because his rationalisation isn't based on reality.
I used to think he was primarily playing a role and that once the cameras were off he understood that his career had been carefully managed. If he actually believed the hype, then he has a big problem. He can go into full cognitive dissonance protection mode like some of his fans and try to deny reality or he can accept what everyone saw in Vegas.
Wilder should not have enacted the immediate rematch clause. Seems like a bad move ...but who knows. I cannot recall a similar sequence of fights as these are, with one fighter getting completly beaten then coming back for an immediate rematch.
He'll probably show up late then, due to being weighed down by the costume. Hopefully there will be someone on the side with an oxygen tank should Wilder gas from the effort, lol.
