    Mercer by KO.

Mercer had problems with guys that were a lot bigger and more skilled than him. Here he has the edge in both skill and the size is about equal. Mercer's chin is reinforced concrete and Wilder was rocked several times in his career. Mercer will force the fight and grind him down.

Wilder is getting a lot of hype for a guy with a single good win in Ortiz and boy, did he have to work for the victory over Gramps.

Wlad hit him with a titanic punch and he still got up and ate many more until the fight was stopped. The artillery shells that Klitschko fed him would have put most HW's on the canvas. I don't fancy a guy like Wilder accumulating enough damage to put Mercer away. I say Wilder gets stopped.

Mercer also beat the **** out of an undefeated, highly ranked, Tommy Morrison in one of the most brutal, highlight-reel KO's in history. That confident, undefeated Morrison hit just as hard as Wilder, and threw WAY more punches than Wilder does. And Ray just kept on coming. Like he did with Cooper, like he did with Lewis,... like he did with everyone he fought when he was in fighting shape. Mercer had an IRON jaw to sustain Wilder's attack, and enough boxing skill to avoid Wilder's flailing shots. Wilder, would not evade the return fire for more than 5 or 6 rounds.

Mercer had an iron chin, but deontay has the power to break it

Myth: Tommy Morrison was highly ranked.
Truth: Tommy did not grace the 1990 Ring ratings and opened 1991 with a victory over a shot to bits Pinklon Thomas and a shaky win over Yuri Vaulin

Myth: Tommy Morrison hit as hard as Wilder
Truth: Tommy Morrison never knocked out a ranked fighter. (Spare me the fabled story of his premature stoppage win over an irrelevant version of Ruddock.)

Tommy also had no gas tank while Wilder carries power late.

Myth: Mercer had enough skill to avoid Wilder's flailing shots.
Truth: Mercer was down on the cards or lost to every ranked fighter he fought (and some not ranked), short of a razor close win over an old Tim Witherspoon.

Truth: Wilder wins if he stays on his feet, stoppage or decision. Mercer has an outside chance of a mid to late rounds stoppage and no chance of winning a decision.

If fights like he did in the Lewis fight, we have to exercise the idea of an early KO for both men. Wilder has a huge athletic advantage, Mercer the much better technician. Ray was an Olympic gold medalist and had great fundamentals, so if he got his tactics right he can win this on the scorecards if he can avoid most of Wilder's biggest shot. Ortiz put up a great attempt, but started going gun ho when he had Wilder hurt and got away from his game plan by pressing the action the very next round.

Hard to stay at this stage and you can make a good case for both, but I think Wilder.'s athleticism merits a slight favouritism from myself. It's not hard to envisage Mercer taking out Wilder though

Your opinion does not equal "Truth." I have seen no conclusive evidence that Wilder hits any harder than Morrison. Both hit hard. Morrison clearly throws better in combination and has a better punch variety than Wilder. Wilder basically just has the straight right hand. And, I welcome you to start a poll to see who thinks Wilder is a better boxer than Ray Mercer. Mercer won an Olympic Gold Medal in a much deeper field than Wilder did when he got his bronze medal. Ray Mercer fought on even terms with two all time greats among others. Wilder has struggled greatly with some of the most pitiful contenders in heavyweight history. Ray really only struggled when he came into fights out of shape. When in shape, nobody had an easy night with Ray Mercer.

...the irony of saying Wilder "struggled greatly" with unnamed opponents while writing off a large portion of Mercer's career due to conditioning. It's strange how he failed to do well against Ferguson in two attempts, knowing damn well what he was preparing for the second time. You're saying he was out shape for Damiani, Morrison, Holmes, Witherspoon, Ferguson x 2, Marion Wilson, etc? Mercer didn't know how to win on the cards.

The better question to ask would be do you think Wilder beats Lennox Lewis?

God help us if he knocks out Joshua. Then again if it goes the other way the Joshua crew will emerge again. Perhaps the Wilder crew will then join the Joshua crew as Joshua must be close to being the GOAT if he hammers Wilder.

Let me guess: you are surrounded on all sides by ruined buildings and garbage, there's something on fire somewhere and the motorcycle gangs are beating each other up nearby? In that case, carry on down the road half a mile; to the left you will see a muddy stream with a bridge over it. Head on under the bridge, I live there ;) I can offer tepid water and oatmeal porridge. If you're quiet you can catch some travellers walking over the bridge :D The porridge is a bit plain on its own.

I spoke to Mercer in person around 3 years ago - he said Wilder wouldn’t last 4 rounds with me. Now obviously I expect a fighter to sound confident when discussing his chances with other fighters but Mercer seemed the most confident and in a way the most dismissive of the fighters we discussed. I wonder if his opinion has changed, I doubt as Wilder still looks relatively the same as he did around 2015.
