The Mercer who fought Lewis vs Deontay Wilder....is Mercer's chin tested

bad style for Wilder. A guy who can take his punch, and can punch, yet Mercer was not too skilled.

 

Wilder is just sloppy and his power bails him out.
But he has never fought anyone that hit as hard as Mercer.
Mercer outjabbed Lennox Lewis and Wilder doesn't have a jab even close to Lennox .
All this talk because Wilder beat a 40 year old Ortiz?
Morrison. Cooper. Holyfield. Witherspoon.
Lewis .None of those boxers ever had an easy time with Mercer .And they are better then anything on Wilders resume.
Name me Wilders top 4 wins.

 

Mercer probably wins that one behind a steady jab. I thought that was Mercer’s best performance, I had it even.

It was a little surprising that the guy who got soundly beaten by 42 year old Holmes, Ferguson, and Damiani thru 8 rounds could come off a layoff and be overweight and almost beat a Steward-trained Lennox. Granted, Lewis could have fought smarter as he allowed himself to get drawn into more of a brawl, but Mercer had surprising success at long range behind the jab.

Mercer took bombs and some hard combos from Lewis and Morrison very well so it’s hard to imagine Wilder KOing Mercer with a single shot.
Holyfield hurt and dropped Mercer with a perfectly timed left hook, so of course it’s possible, but I don’t think it would happen.

 

My money would be on Mercer.

 

I would actually expect deontay to beat mercer, not sure he could knock mercer out though, mercer was one tough s.o.b.
