....good to see you back mate..:good ..are you still workin' in China? ..and nah mate..I'm only a pretty inexperienced trainer (and i haven't trained anyone since '05 anyway) but i love to put it out there and try to sponge up information..any chance I get..I suppose at the end of the day you gotta put your nuts on the line and just go with what you know.. ..my old trainer/mentor Sharkey Hughes just basicly said just go with the basics..and you learn with your fighters..and your fighter will make you as a trainer.. ..my basic theory is just learn about surviving in the ring for half a dozen fights and then the strengths of a particular fighter will be obvious and you go from there..develop a style around that.. ..but at the end of the day..the jab and move to the outside will always be the bread'n'butter on many occasion's during a fighters career..:thumbsup
No, not in China, was just having a holiday close to home....might go back to Chawna later this year...... I tend to agree with your trainer's stategy; it makes good sense. Palmer NEVER micro managed his boxers...we all had our own styles and favourite moves and punches and styles; Ambrose introduced the catching and ducking exercises which became an embedded practise by all of his boxers; he helped with some classic counter moves, left jab attacking and ring craft movement to nuetralise attack. The fboxer MUST establish himself, on his pat malone sometimes, really, by this I mean, he must study, practise, practise, practise, and pick himself up continually in the perfection of boxing moves, evaluate the worth of moves and their impact/danger, and when perfected, put them in the scabbard to wait for the right time to bring out that particular arrow...if you get what I mean..
(Well schooled) should you have all these attributes, Nothing better than watching two well versed pro's go out start the game of chess , one finds a weapon the other a weekness and so the merry dance goes, Isreal Vasques vs Rafeal Marques not a bad example.
http://iview.abc.net.au/programs/redesign-my-brain-with-todd-sampson/DO1325H003S00 Was watching this documentary this morning about a bloke handling his fears of tight-rope walking - by spending lots of time facing the fears he will obviously face by designing training; I could not help but consider that preparation through practise of training skills is such a similar thing in boxing.
I only started reading this thread today and I'm loving it. If you're still on this site atigerofold I'd absolutley love to read more from you.
