With so much talk of GGG (Gennady Golovkin) people sometimes forget about Sergio Martinez.

Martinez will be 39 years old on the 21st and some say he isn't the fighter he used to be. Martinez hasn't fought since April 27, 2013. His last fight was a somewhat close but clear 12 round decision over Martin Murray. Murray did have Martinez down in the 8th round. Martinez was actually down in his last 3 fights... Chavez had him down in the 12th round but lost about 10 or 11 rounds, Macklin had him down in the 7th round but was down and then stopped in the 11th round.

Honestly, I still think Martinez deserves to be considered "the man" at 160 Lbs.

GGG (29-0 (26)) looks very impressive. He has good power and has some nice KO wins. He stopped Macklin in the 3rd round after Macklin had lost a questionable SD to Sturm and been stopped in 11 rounds by Martinez in a very tough fight. Adama, Stevens, Ishida, Rosado, Ouma (who already had 7 losses)... aren't exactly the best fighters in the world... but GGG looked very good beating them all.

Peter Quillin (30-0 (22)) is also very good... but his resume is not quite as good as GGG's in my opinion. They both stopped Rosado... Alfredo Angulo stopped him too (much quicker than either man), but I'm not saying Angulo could beat either of them.

Until Martinez (51-2-2 (28KO) loses or retires he is the man at MW. Look back at his resume over the last 14 years. He has gone 35-1-1 (22) overall. His only loss during this stretch was to Paul Williams, which could have been a draw or even a win for Martinez (great fight). He stopped Williams in the 2nd round of their rematch. The draw was vs. Kermit Cintron which was B.S.... Martinez should have won that fight. He's stopped Bunema, clearly outboxed Pavlik, stopped Dzinziruk, Barker, and Macklin, clearly outboxed Chavez, and won a good fight vs. Murray.

I think GGG and Quillin should fight and the winner should fight Martinez. Martinez needs to beat somebody before fighting one of these guys though. He's not gonna fight Mayweather or Ward (not that he wouldn't be willing to) so he needs to do this.

Martinez is by far the most accomplished middleweight and deserves to be recognized as middleweight-king until he loses, retires, or blatantly ducks the most dangerous competition continually.

Judging on the impression of his last three fights, I wouldn't regard him as the best middleweight anymore though, thats ggg.

Peter Quillin is not very good at all, even this Sergio schools him(prime stops him), i would favor GGG over Sergio right now but Sergio is still the man as you say at 160.

(sarcasm)Can't wait to see Martinez defend the lineal MW title at a 159lbs catchweight(sarcasm):D

Seeing as how I think Golovkin beats everyone at 160lbs, I'm gonna say GGG is "The Man" at middleweight.

I don't consider Quillin a top 5 middleweight. I think Rosado was winning their last fight.
I suspect a decent chin fighter would make it very hard for him. Honestly I think he is very good but I treat his level of opponents to date as not very good apart for N'dam who was between top 10 and top 20. Geale and Sturm would beat him in my opinion.

I like Martinez but that fight wasn't "somewhat close". It was extremely close. Many had Murray winning.

I'd like to think Martinez could return to top form but I just can't see it happening. He'll still beat Cotto though.

Yeah sure:patsch Murray just gave away first 3 or 4 round without throwing anything, and you cant see 3 more rounds for Sergio, fact is Murray started late and that cost him greatly...close fight but Sergio won fairly.

Martinez is the champ. However he may not be the best fighter. He is old, and hurt.

GGG will be the new king
, not just middleweight but P4P!

i think SM is the man at MW in name only. i think GGG is by far and away the best MW for a long time and i think any version of GGG would uttely destroy any version SM.

people can consider SM the man based on past accomplishments but if he ever steps in with GGG you will see 2 completely different class of fighters in the ring and SM will retire after the thrashing he receives. SM said he would fight GGG, i not so sure but if he does much props because there is only 1 ending and its ugly for SM
