Here's a couple of links for you. I chat with a lot of people and it astounds me that a lot of boxing fans don't even know his name. I think you should. Jimmy's life - http://www.johnnyowen.com/jimmy_wilde.html http://coxscorner.tripod.com/wilde.html Record fromBoxrec - http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=009023&cat=boxer I'll leave you with this thought: Can you imagine a guy like this, training full time, with a top trainer today?
He fought a fillipino,Pancho Villa, after he mistakenly decided to go for the big money after he retired.Did well until he got knocked out in 7,its on youtube.Awesome in his prime, the best fighter that ever came from Britain imo.
I read in this book I have that he hit harder than guys who weighed 30 to 40 pounds more than he did. His punching power was insane and was actually the subject of a scientific study.
The power he had was said to have developed from when he was pulling carriages of coal when he was working in a Welsh mine as a youngster. As a boxer he was unbeaten in 98 fights with 99 ko`s.
How does that work? Truly remarkable fighter. One of the best ever, not just at flyweight but alltime.
Yeah what a record, 99 kos is just insane what ever some may feel of his era (we all know some think it was crap), hes a top 10 all time great for me
I'd wager he hit someone so hard they got knocked out twice . It's good to see him get some props on here- he's a name every boxing fan owes it to themselves to learn at least a little about. :thumbsup
