Why? I have already said some are braver than others. Some are very brave others are quite brave. My point is that there is certain level of bravery required to step into the ring and face potential paralysis or death. You might say a guy like Evander Holyfield was a very brave fighter because of the opponents he faced and the way he fought, and you might say a bomb disposal team are extremely brave. There are different levels of bravery. Just because there are a good amount of people who are brave does not mean some are not braver than others. You can still call boxers very brave even if you admit that there are more dangerous professions.
Juan Manuel Marquez perfectly fits that bill, not just surviving or swinging for the fences, but getting yourself together and trying to win the fight :deal
Anyone see Lehoulliers effort against Peter Quillin this weekend? Took the fight on a week and halfs notice and did everything he could to win, while extremely overmatched. I would say he was very brave/
Once you sign your contract, you are getting paid regardless when you step in the ring, barring something extraordinary. So yes, sticking in the ring while nearly getting brain damage (Briggs) over 12 rounds, is brave. Getting hit extremely hard, and extremely often, when you know you aren't going to win, and sticking around, is brave.
Indeed. Corner threw the towell in, I did feel for him. After the first round his face was cut and reddening.
I would like to know how many of these people who post about how boxers should be "warriors" and "go out on their shield" send donations and/or visit broken down boxers from the past?
