Rumours of only 850k buyers makes the moment a financial failure due to expensive and extravagant undercard.

It appears that people ain't buying cherry picking, pillow fighting, ducking, mayweather no more.

Had it not happed on cinco de mayo day, and had it not had broner and khan on the card, numbers would probably barely reach 500k.

With 1.5million breakeven point. Showtime/GBP is loosing massive money.

    Sign of things to come?

That's not an official report One guy who has no ties to ESPN/GBP/SHO etc. Said that, he got it "Within the walls" of Golden Boy, yet has no ties to them. Its not true.

The thing people fail to realize is most people buy Floyd ppvs hoping to see him lose, they don't buy it to watch him "perform." So if there's no risk of him losing, people ain't buying it.

Undercard was just expensive showcases. Few people expected Maidana to perform like he did. Its quite understandable if the PPV performed poorly coming off a boring match with Canelo.

Your last fight informs sales/interest in your next fight. If Floyd faces Maidana again, or if he faces a credible guy his next fight will sell well.

It looks like Guerrero type numbers with a bigger more expensive undercard
    .
It's time for showtime yo rethink that contract or push Floyd to take some challenges.

There's no risk of loosing when u cherry pick limited plodders and stick them in pillow gloves.

It's just that people are getting wise to the idea.:deal

Only rumours until we see a credible source.

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised considering:

    a) More and more people are using illegal streams: technology is advancing and people are more tech savvy. Some people who are on the fence about buying might opt for theft instead.

    b) The undercard may have been expensive, but it wasn't a very good one. Broner was only having a comeback tune-up fight, nobody really cared about Periban-Love. Khan was the most interesting fight but Collazo isn't a big name opponent.

    c) Not much Mexican involvement. On the Cinco de Mayo holiday, there was no Mexican star on the card. I'm surprised they didn't try to get Mares, LSC or somebody similar on the card.

    d) Most people predicted the main event would resemble Floyd-Guerrero and wouldn't be very competitive, so may not have bothered buying. Floyd was big favourite. There wasn't even much hype going into the fight, not until fight week at least and it was a bit anti-climatic after the Canelo fight and card.

    e) There are other PPV's on: Canelo-Angulo was a while ago but Pacquaio-Bradley was less than a month ago and Martinez-Cotto coming up: Some people might have to pick and chose which to buy and mightn't afford to or want to purchase all of them.

    f) Mayweather still has 3 fights on his contract left: There isn't the urgency to buy because it could be Floyds next fight: he's fighting again in Sept so people might skip this one or stream instead.

    g) Casuals have lost some interest in Mayweather over the Pacquaio saga (and vice-versa) and begrudge paying to see Mayweather fight an on-paper average opponent. I know one person said something along the lines of 'why would I support guys that flush my money down the toilet (re Broner) or waste it on one of their dozens of cars and *beep* (re Mayweather).
