That's because it's his style of fighting, has nothing to do with having courage or balls to be honest. That's the way he was brought up to fight and the way he always fought. Hopkins is a mover as we all know who counter punches, makes you miss and takes advantage of mistakes till he slowly breaks you down and either takes you out late or gets the decision. True that Trinidad showed courage and deserves respect for it but the way he was fighting just describes his style of fighting, not his mentality. If he's a mover who all of a sudden decided to be the aggressor like Leonard did against Hearns in the 2nd half of the fight or the entire first fight with Duran then sure.
Exactly and I also remember many people picking Joppy to win that fight with VERY few picking Trinidad to score a KO, even the ones that picked Trinidad thought he will do it by decision.
i agree and tito never landed any flush punches on him hard to hit bernard with one clean shot let alone combonations
He landed some flush shots but Bernard was able to take them, especially during some of the many exchanges they had as the fight went on. Early though he didn't land anything as Bernard was moving a lot and looking to make Trinidad miss.
That's because nobody know that Tito had his hands wrapped like brass knuckle. Joppy said Tito punches felt like a brick...He should have the fight stop to get the hand wrap check out.
Thanks for the intelligent post. I can't believe so many fools still believe what Hopkins camp said about the wraps. All wraps are supervised by the other team and nobody until Hopkins said anything. Also Hopkins has been one of the dirtiest fighters around so it's obvious he was messing with Tito's head.
Yet they refused to wrap Tito's hand in front of Hopkins team and had to get head of commision involved to force them to rewrap it with one of Hopkins team present at the fight. As for no one else complaining, Hopkins was warned by a former opponent of Tito.
Man, he definitely belonged at MW, people were expecting him to go all the way up and meet Roy Jones at 175 or a catch weight at the time. I mean who at 160 were people expecting to beat Trinidad? Certainly not Hopkins who was a big underdog for that fight.
He fought Hopkins. One of the greatest defensive fighters, ever. Of course Trinidad wouldnt be showing his punching power. Hopkins defense shut down Tito's power.
but hopkins stood toe to toe with dlh for 90% of the fight where as trinidad you can only make a solid case for the last 3 or 4 rounds apart from that hopkins fought in spurts
Cosigned. After reading the corroborating articles about his handwraps, and testing it out myself when I had my hands wrapped in the same fashion described, it forever tarnished his legacy in my eyes.
