I think when you start comparing the likes of Jaca to Juan Diaz, it's needless to say that Diaz is being sold a little short.
divac, go back and read my analysis again, I didnt at all compare how Diaz would do against JMM by how he looked and performed vs Campbell. I brought up the Campbell fight because I use to believe that getting inside and roughing him up is the best way to fight Juan because of the footwork issues he showed against Campbell (unable to angle himself away from Campbell's power...unable to create any type of distance...etc.), but that afterI saw how wonderful his footwork, movement and angles looked vs Katsidis everytime the fight was brought inside, I went back and watched the Campbell fight again...and it was plain as day. It wasnt his lack of footwork or movement that enabled his inability to fight his own fight vs Nate, it was the fact that his corner did a dispicable job with the cut, meaning he had to spend the rest of the fight angling away from the eye, and therefore into Campbell's power...and because this limited what he could do, it limited his ability to create distance as well. AND, even if that was the best way to fight Diaz, JMM doesnt have that in his arsenal anyway. This was why I brought Katsidis and Campbell into it...it wasnt a comparison of fighters, but rather a show of styles and weaknesses/strengths. Again, go back and read it. And I think my track record shows that not only do I believe every word I wrote, but I know what Im talking about as well. If Marquez wins, I will gladly eat that crow.
I think Juan Diaz will impose his will on Marquez a lot more effectively. Diaz can put his punches together fairly well when he needs too, and Marquez will have to make sure he doesn't allow his work to be smothered. I think Marquez will win a competitive fight, but Juan Diaz is very live. P.S Wonderful avatar. Great fight. Great fighter was Tapia. He was so watchable.
That is how I see it, although Marquez in my mind is not as great as Pacman, who can move up to any weight and win. I think Marquez will find that his skills and experience are not enough to overcome a move up-maybe it will not show with Diaz, but it will show soon enough.
You have'nt made yourself clear on how Diaz will go about beating JMM..... Will Diaz go about making it a brawl? Will he outbox JMM? Do you think Diaz' footwork is going to do the trick? Diaz does have a nice roll to the side when he's let to fight at close quarters.....and usually its Diaz' activity that overwhelms fighters that like to fight lazy.... ...unfortunately for Diaz, JMM is an active fighter himself who fights and likes to fight 3 minutes of every round. Thats something that I've taken notice of Diaz when he does well.....he overwhelms less than top notch fighters with activity...... In JMM, we're talking about a fighter that trains at a very high altitude in the Otomi Mountains......altitude that would make Big Bear in California seem like nothing. In JMM we're talking about one of the best conditioned fighters in boxing today, so I'm quite certain that activity is not going to overwhelm JMM the way it has done with many Diaz opponents. I've got to say, JMM will actually welcome the activity...... .....and think of me Sues....when Diaz drastically lowers his workrate after repeatedly getting thudded with pinpoint accurate hard counters. I'm trying to think of a Diaz opponent who can remotely resemble the pedigree of JMM, and I cant think of one.
I think using the Katsidas fight as a showcase of Juan Diaz's boxing skill is the wrong fight to analyze for JMM. Katsidas is the kind of fighter you want to try new things with, he can be thoroughly outboxed, a low quality fighter in Amonst outboxed him but Katsidas's power bailed him out. I only see Diaz winning if JMM gets carried away and gets sucked into fighting Diaz's fight.
divac bro...go back and read the post bro. As for my man Boom Boom...bro, read my second post on this thread...I wasnt comparing a JMM fight to a Katsidis fight. Not in the slightest bit...
You're exactly right about using Katsidis to guage Diaz' boxing or even footwork prowess...... Arturo Gatti was made to look like a master boxer when he elected to box Mickey Ward....... ......then Gatti steps in against a real boxer in Mayweather Jr. and is made to look less than a rank amatuer. The same with Kelly Pavlik vs Jermaine Taylor.....Pavlik boxed well vs a good boxer in Jeramaine Taylor....... ......but what happened when he was made to step up vs a Master boxer in Bernard Hopkins? I think thats what going to happen here with Juan Diaz......he's simply going to step into a class he's never had a sniff of before.
1- Gatti didnt look like a master boxer vs Ward. They both looked crude...it was great to watch because of this. 2- Pavlik was getting beaten by Taylor when he stopped him (I had him winning one round minus the KD in the first fight) and he barely won the second one (I had it 7-5 like most did). 3- Are you even reading my posts or just seeing that I see the fight going differently than you, so you are nitpicking? I have already stated in three different posts that the Katsidis fight was not being used as a comparison, but rather that it showed me that Diaz's movement, angles and footwork were limited vs Campbell because of the cut (or more accurately his corners inability to deal with the cut). When I was speaking about the Campbell and Katsidis fights, I never once even mentioned JMM...only saying that even if Diaz's weaknesses were on the inside and that he could be roughed up...that isnt in JMM's arsenal. Come on guys...reading is fundamental...atsch
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I you saying Diaz will force his way to the inside and JMM will not be good enough to handle Diaz' activity? In your estimation, JMM will not be able to find room to counter Juan Diaz effectively? Describe for me how you think the fight will go in the beggining, the middle and the late rounds.....because I'm just not understanding how you're depicting the fight will go? What will be missing in JMM's game that you believe Juan Diaz will take advantage of....... Remember now, JMM just got though of disposing one of the dirtiest fighters in all of boxing.....JMM did'nt give Casamayor an opportunity to use the dirty tactics he so loves on the inside...... I'm saying this becuase alot of poster here felt that JMM would have trouble with Casa on the inside because of Casa's trickery and dirty deeds on the inside........Marquez made them null and void!
Since I see this fight going the distance, it could very well rest solely on the individual judges criteria preference. Judges who score volume over quality will give Diaz the nod, and judges who score quality over volume will go for Marquez. I suspect Diaz will throw more, but Marquez will land the better more accurate shots. Unless Marquez got old overnight, no way Diaz stops him. And Diaz showed a great beard against Nate, so I see him taking Marquez shots ok. Diaz "boxing ability" against Katsidis is irrlelvant, because Katsidis, as much as I enjoy watching him, is basically a heavy bag with feet. As much as I am pulling for Marquez, I can see a situation, especially with todays judging, where Diaz gets a decision based solely on workrate, even though Marquez is landing the better shots. And lets not forget the fight is in Texas. They have some funny math down there. Although I'm told they are bringing in all neutral officials from outside Texas.
I think Marquez will beat Diaz, but the judges will probably cheat Marquez like they did the two Pac fights.
