So with my recent Canelo thread I thought I'd make this.

My first nomination will be Bernard Hopkins.

Hopkins was anything but boring in my viewing experience. Always a fascinating watch.

As far as inside the ring goes, too many to count. I'm just going to go with an easy answer and say some Heavyweight contenders during Ali's era. Joe Bugner, Ernie Terrell, Oscar Bonavena. I have never seen a full fight of them aside from against Ali. Hell, I haven't even seen half of Bugner's second fight against Ali. I was bored out of my mind and turned it off.

As far as personality goes, again, there are too many to count. But Terence Crawford might actually be the only fighter that has ever actually frustrated me when watching him talk, without him even saying anything repulsive. His sheer lack of personality and charismatic ineptitude genuinely pisses me off. If I had him as a classmate during childhood and adolescence, I would actively avoid school because I'd be expecting him to shoot it anyday.

"He's got superpowers in boring people to death"

"He's got about as much charisma as my underpants, zero"

"You're boring I want to rid you out of the division, your jab and grab style, surely the world wants to see you beaten"

"You're robotic not fun and exciting, you are an old man"

I liked his early fights when he was more aggressive, and some of fights later in his career I enjoyed like the ones vs Trinidad, Pascal 1, etc. But overall I did find alot of his championship fights to be quite dull. Obviously I respect his skills and achievements but alot of his fights didn't do it for me.

As much as I respect his skills and ring IQ Andre Ward is the answer.

Ward because of the grappling. Hopkins grappled too but he was 45 and did more damage with his right hand so i gave him a pass. Hopkins also fouled (and whined about getting fouled) so flagrantly it was actually kind of endearing and funny, like watching a hustler at work. Ward was just a cheap conman in comparison with his headbutts and other fouls.

Wlad because for the most part you knew he COULD do more and COULD win more in more exciting fashion with his talent but just chose not to out of caution, jabbing and hugging those bums until he finally felt comfortable knocking them over.

Ward & Mayweather in his Money phase (PBF used to throw combos & get stoppages before he turned into safety first, doing the bare minimum to coast to a decision in his Money days)

If every Boxer took up this approach, it will be the fastest way to kill Boxing as a spectator sport & it will just be the 1000 or so self proclaimed "sweet science" appreciators left who will be beating off to it. The public wants to see combos & knockouts not pitty pat even when the other guy doesn't belong in the ring with you

I always enjoyed watching Bernard fight, he was absolutely brilliant in the ring, crafty and slick (& dirty).
