    Jess Williard

The man kept on getting up even if he was getting beat to a pulp and even if in those days the referee didn't allow the fighter a break after getting knocked down. Simply an amazing effort.

By the way, this was the Jack Dempsey vs. Jess Williard fight.
It took place in 1919 for the Heavyweight Crown.

I couldn't single out one fighter as the most courageous performance. Too many to count. Willard suffered some serious injuries though in his fight with Dempsey from my readings.

Jesse Willard was 6 ft 6 1⁄2 in (1.99 m) and 235 lb (107 kg) and didn't start boxing until the age of 27. He faced Dempsey at the age of 37.
