Dmitry Pirog springs to mind, there's the odd rumour that he might come back to the ring but I ain't holding my breath.

Fukked up his back doing the tried and true 'hit the tractor tyre with the sledgehammer' training regimeatsch

Matt Korobov and Denis Boytsov are two whose careers have been blighted by management/promoter issues, but who just may have a second shot - just have to wait and see.

Sad Chad, Tavoris Cloud- both guys who did good but should have been great.

Gabriel Campillo, if he had more power in his hands, he wouldn't have gotten robbed by the judges as much as he did

 

i agree with every one of those guys, except Cloud, he was never really that good to begin with, he's slightly just better than your average basic fighter

Pirog is a total flop considering the talent. He really never did anything in terms of what you'd think a "champion" or even "titlist" would do. Beat an undefeated prospect in Jacobs which was a good win, beat a couple tough guys in Maciel, etc, and then also took out Ishida between Williams and GGG doing so. Pretty solid, nowhere near remembering in 25 years. Once again, extremely disappointing.

Boystov, agreed. I actually would value someone picking up a win over him more than most HW's out there (for example to me beating Boystov in the same fashion of beating Chisora is better). Notice I'm not saying anything about him beating anyone.

As for Dawson and Cloud, I strongly agree on the first, strongly disagree on the second.

So far Cloud amassed an impressive run to start his career but not all that much more significant than say Pirog, relative to their notoriety. Campillo was a tough fight he deserved to lose and he's not the first guy who on paper should have beaten Hopkins. I actually believed in Cloud, but not to the point where the bad results of his career surprised me.

Dawson is a guy on the other hand with a good 6 or 7 great wins. Back after Adamek and into his 4 fights with Johnson/Tarver I though he'd be in the HOF some day. Boy has that not panned out, but still not disappointing. He handed Hopkins his most decisive lose. That counts for something big in the grand scheme of things. I think he is underrated and I speak up for him a lot. Good scalps he has and a solid amount of them.

 

Fernando Vargas - the guy was green and yet STILL gave Trinidad hell . Zab Judah - Judah right now should be praised as one of the greatest WW of all time . Yet his lack of motivation/Hunger was his downfall .

 

objectively there are a ton of very disappointing careers.

subjectively, since i'm a huge fan of the guy, i'm very disappointed with how kelly pavlik turned out. no he was never going to be an atg but had so much more to offer and just pissed it away. rather drank it then pissed it away.
