Yep, Hamed and Michael Gomez jumped out for me.
    probably honourable mention to Khan.

    I pick Lennox Lewis honestly.

A lot of people go "he just jab jab jabs"

If you say that, you haven't watched a Lewis fight

Carl Froch for someone who is actually british; also Barry McGuigan was born in the republic of ireland, not the UK.

yes, I forgot Mills, which is an irony given my connection... but of course Mills, he was Pure Fight and nothing but exciting, take 3 to land 1, the Fans & Box Office loved him.

    Fixed!

Has to be Nigel. I was a huge fan from the moment i first saw him on the great ITV Fight Night show (the Monday one), which was this:

Yeah,it shows how bigger and more mainstream boxing was back in those days. The fact that a fighter who did n't even win a British title is so fondly remembered speaks volumes.

I forgot about Frankie Lucas. Very exciting indeed to watch and a real wildman. I would quite often see him in the pubs around Croydon back in the seventies.

    RIP Frankie.

He was never in a dull fight. I had the pleasure of meeting him last year and will be seeing him again on October 26th - together with Michael Watson.

namely because National Titles and the British Title were still Proper Accolades, globally recognised right into the 1960s & 70s and the TOP Men, most of them, were the genuine article.

Not like todays Multiple Divisions, Belts - ABC, LMN 'O's PQ titles, NO Fight chumpions and media pish trying to sell them off as such...

it was just a better time when Boxing still held credibility in the Main. Fighters were also reaching UP in Divisional recognition, not having 4 - 6 months to get down to a weight, 3 Divisions lower than their Natural Body weight.

    Different days completely.

I always liked that there was still more to strive for after winning at British title (apart from hoping to rise to Euro or world champ) with being awarded a Lonsdale belt for three successful defenses. Gave a champ incentive to etch his name in history and have a lifetime keepsake to cherish.

It said, ‘Not only was I British champ, I was among the cream of the crop of Brit champs because I did more than win it — I held it and defended it zealously.’
